So, I had my appointment at a private fertility clinic today... OH has normal sperm (not surprised was just making sure) and my uterus and ovaries look normal, I’m awaiting my AMH blood test results now...

In my consultation to discuss my results the doctor said it’s most likely my weight (again, not a massive shock there) but he also said because my cycle is 36 days ish I’m unlikely to be releasing an egg even though I have an LH surge... does that seem right? I’m not sure it does...

I get my surge on day 20-21 of my cycle, he said this is very late... has anyone got pregnant with a longer cycle?

My cycles were long and irregular, ranging from 33 to 66 days. I had hormone workup to rule out pcos and other stuff. Doc said to me that since my hormone levels (fsh, lh, testosterone) were coming back normal, I probably was ovulating, but on my body's own schedule. At that point, we weren't actively trying, so he just said to see how it goes, but expect a long journey to conception. Only ended up taking us about 6 cycles.

I started temping for a good 8 months or so before we were properly trying, mainly to keep my sanity and have some idea of when my period would come. Id say most cycles I did ovulate, just to ages for my body to do it. Do you track bbt? Its better way to confirm ov than an lh surge, which isn't always a productive surge.

Ps, on the cycle I caught, based on dates from my scan, I will have ovulated about cd33, so its entirely possible to catch even I've you ov late

Good luck with your journey xx

Personally, I'd get another opinion. If you're regularly getting a surge on CD20-21, and then getting AF on CD36, it's probable that you are ovulating. Obviously your blood tests will tell for sure. You can definitely get pregnant if you're ovulating later though. Many women with PCOS ovulate crazy late and still manage to conceive :)

When I've not ovulated I had a 45 day cycle and a 22 day cycle. So in my non-professional opinion, I'd say you're in with a shot here.

Thanks for your reply, helps me keeps hopeful

I don’t use bbt, I’m the worst at remembering to do stuff like that as I get up really early to get to work (hence replying to this at 4.10am) but maybe I should give that a good go

It’s more often than not on CD20-21 now, a few anomaly but pretty regular... more so since ttc actually! Considering I used to get cycles between 40ish days and 18 MONTHS when I was a teen I think my body has sorted itself out

Hi just wanted to let u no it is entirely possible to ovulate later in your cycle. I ovulated on cd22 there last month and got my bfp last week. However before that my af was every 8 weeks and I wasn't ovulating then. I knew I had this time as my opk test line was darker than the control line for the first time ever. Good luck and sending you baby dust xx

18 months :O wow. Did you ever see a doctor about that??

Yep I think you're ovulating now. Those long cycles (40 days plus) are probably anovulatory but it's hard to know. Definitely seek a second opinion. :)

I did see a doctor in my 20s and all I got, and I quote, was ‘come back when you want kids... oh, and lose some weight’

Hi, thanks for the reply... I get a darker positive on my OPK than the control the last few months so that gives me hope

Hey Welshgirl.

I've always had a 35-42 day cycle, with ovulation between days 21-24. I am currently 7 months pregnant and we (very luckily) didn't have any issues conceiving. I second Winterwolf - perhaps get a second opinion?

Good luck x

20-21 days is not very late...for a lot of women it's normal. It also makes perfect sense for you to ovulate then if your cycle is long. The best sign of ovulation is a normal period. My fertility doctor said if you don't ovulate you can't have a normal period as it is the egg that triggers the progesterone, which thickens the uterus.

Another good way to tell is start temping...you won't get a luteal phase temp rise if you have not ovulated.

Not sure about this doctors advice...No reason you can't ovulate with a 36 day cycle. Are your periods normal?

I get normal 4-5-Day periods, not too heavy or light... thanks for you encouraging words, I think I’ll start temping if I haven’t caught this cycle (I’m 8dpo at the moment)

My cycles were 32-33 days... I ovulated between day 18-21. Got pregnant 8 times. I dont understand just because you have a longer cycle why you wouldnt release an egg doesnt make sense to me.

That’s what I thought, I didn’t think it made sense either... he kept getting caught up on my longest cycles of like 47 days and 72 days which are the exception not the norm... the last 3 cycles have been pretty much identical in length, 10 luteal phase... maybe I should get that second opinion

There was a documentry about private fertility places, saying you NEED extra stuff to make you pay more. Plus he souldnt have said anything until he has proof you dont ovulate...
I also had the odd cycle 40-50 days, but that was stress related.. Anything can affect a cycle, he shouldnt really regard those..

Once I stopped the pill, I had two cycles of 38 days, then got pregnant on my third cycle. I was getting positive opks about day 25...

Your cycle is within the normal range, seems a silly thing for him to say. My cycles are similar (when I have them, they are very erratic) and were the same on clomid, oving later than the 'normal' day 14.

I also conceived on CD69 and cd79 in the past, I did mc them but unrelated to the cd of ov.
