Hi guys.

Has anyone had a cvs done? I've got one booked on Monday and I'm petrified!

Hi there,

Yes, I had it done at about 13 weeks. My nuchal scan was perfect but bloods were terrible.

Anyway, it was the most agonising decision to make but we went for it anyway - couldn't wait until 16 weeks for the amnio!

Although it was a little bit painful, it was nothing that you can't handle. It's just unlike any other pain you've probably experienced that's all. They numb the area, but there's a layer that won't numb so that's why it hurts a bit.

I took the advice really seriously about taking it easy afterwards - luckily I was on school holidays so literally sat on the sofa while my hubby and in-laws, who were staying at the time, ran around after me. You will feel quite tender afterwards for about 3 or 4 days too and won't want to cough or sneeze etc, but it was fine.

We paid the extra money and had the results within 24 hours and everything was normal!

Good luck with it all - as long as you have full trust in the person performing the procedure and stay perfectly still throughout, you'll be fine! Please, please do take the after care seriously too - Take full advantage of your OH to look after you!

Let us know how you get on! xx

Thanks! It's nice to hear from someone in a similar situation. Did the risk of miscarriage worry you at all? Or is it all worth it?

I don't have any experience hun but just wanted to say that I've been thinking of you and will continue to do so.
Good luck.

Sorry - I lost this thread for a while!

Yes, I was petrified of miscarriage, especially as the odds of it were slightly higher than the odds of me having a baby with Downs. It was a really tough decision to make but we're glad we went ahead with it. I just took it really easy afterwards and here I am at 34 weeks pregnant!

Have you had your appointment already? If so, I hope everything went well for you!

xxx
