I've heard it's not that rare. I think we may be showing one symptoms.
He has reflux and colic and grows up most of his feeds, he is gaining weight but it's Propper vomit not just milk. Then he gets distressed but won't feed.
His reflux is slowly gettin worse despite the gaviscon and yesterday he developed a rash on his face that quickly covered his entire body! I rushed him to the doctor who said it was just viral but I'm just not confident in his diagnosis and I think there's more to it.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? Does it sound like an allergy? I'm considering taking dairy out of my diet for a week but I have so much milk and dairy this would make for a very difficult week, still if it's works it's worth a shot.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Im guessing your breastfeeding? .. take a look at isitcowsmilkallergy.com .. or .co.uk not sure which one it is.

Sounds like it could may well be, your right it's not uncommon and effects around 20percent of babies.
Everything you've said, is what we suffered with. Alhtough I formula feed.

Babies who are cows milk intolerant are usually soya too. Best thing to try is cutting out both, sounds difficult, but you should see and improvement at the latest in 2 weeks. As it can take this long for milk/lactose etc.. to leave both of your systems.
Once you find he has improved, maybe try adding soya into your diet, see how he reacts to that.

Gps are difficult to get on your side with this, as the prescribed formula is expensive. x

Jessie, our hv recommended I remove dairy from my diet as the baby was quite fussy when pooing, and we thought he had upset stomach. She said baby didn't have all the symptoms (I.e. No rash), but was worth a try.

I cut out dairy, it was tough although I am used to dairy-free life.. So I can imagine that it will be a massive adjustment for you.

Just make sure you get a prescription for calcium if you do decide to give it a go.

Also, lactose intolerance is something different.

Hiya my daughter is thought to have a cow's milk allergy and reflux. This was after a trip to a&e with her at 7 weeks old after the previous few days having reduced feed amounts along with increased vomiting. At its worst she was screaming cos she was hungry, try offering boobs or bottles and she would just scream after trying to drink. One the thing a paediatric doctor said was she was having too many bm. She had one every nappy change which on breast milk is unusual. She was still gaining weight but think that was because she was drinking so much before the really bad days. The hospital gave us some nutramigen formula and it stayed down and she relaxing. She was a different baby the next day. She did keep vomiting but was comfortable however is now also on acid suppressant which has worked wonders. We've not looked back since.
I was told by doctor I could cut out dairy to continue to breastfeed but she also said I'd have to go lactose free, which is very hard as its in so much and I wasn't sure I'd b able to do it plus I wanted her to b comfortable immediately and didn't want to wait for it to die down as I reduced my lactose intake.
Good luck x

Thank you all I found your replies really helpful you all told me something I didn't know so I feel a lot more knowledgable now.

Well I cut all dairy and soy 2 days ago and I know it's crazy and probably coincidence but things are different! He was happy and smoky last night not screaming and he's not had a poo in about 10 hours now, normal he goes hourly so I found his interesting after what you said Aimee.
It's hard because I normally have so much dairy so every time I eat I have I carefully think before putting anything in my mouth and shopping took a lot longer than normal as I read everything but if this helps it will be worth it.

Has anyone else noticed a difference this soon after cutting dairy? I expected to have to wait a week or 2?

we noticed within 4 bottles/feeds once we changed my little ones milk =) It can happen very quickly.

Glad things seem better =) Hope it gets easier for you cutting out all the dairy! .. once he's happy, maybe try adding some soya into your diet, easier to get alternatives with that.

You can buy vegan cheese in Tesco though, called 'vitalite' and coconut milk/oat milk etc should be ok =)

My lo has a suspected cows milk allergy as he has blood in his poo, which happened to happen 24 hours after his first rotavirus vaccine. He was late with his vaccines and had his first at 12 weeks so we aren't which is the cause.

Anyhow, I was advised to cur dairy from my diet for 6 weeks then to slowly introduce cows milk back into my diet to see if there was a reaction. I never managed to cut it out completely but drastically reduced it and replaced cows milk with coconut milk. However after four weeks I started having IBS and read that this could be a side effect of OMG term coconut milk consumption. Also can be from stress so double whammy when trying to cope with this.
Also most milk alternatives have fillers which is usually soy so very possible for lo to be allergic to the soy too.

My go was very good and referred me to the hospital and we went straight there from our go appt. The hospital staff were excellent too and I was referred to a dietician. It has been a long process and I actually gave up and am eating like normal and weaning my baby. He hasn't had blood in his poo for weeks so hopefully that break gave his bowels time to heal themselves, as the consultant believed he had colitis as a result of the allergy.

Cows milk allergy is completely different to lactose intolerance to with different symptoms.
