Hi,

I've looked on my local authorities website and can't find the answer.

Just got our bill and realised we've been paying the 10 month rate (not the 12 month rate) for at least a year now. So I've been effectively overpaying by £18.50 a month.

Are we now allowed to take a 2 month payment break? Or is it only Jan and Feb each year you don't pay?

Or can we just pay a lesser amount each month?

I know I need to speak to the Council but they are notoriously hard to get in contact with!

I've overpaid on a couple of years. Then on the next bill they just knock off the overpayment and work out your new lower monthly payments x

Hi I don't know a lot about it but I pay for 10 months of the year and have feb and march off as the new tax year begins in April so you could probably have this month off and they would owe you some money back for feb x

Thanks ladies,

I'll try giving them a call tomorrow to double check. I was just curious!

Not to have to pay this month would be fabby.

In Scotland we pay over 10 months and have Jan & Feb off.

I had my bill through on Friday and it showed I was £92 in credit. Then it showed that they have reduced this years bill by £92 so I rang them up and said "I don't want you to reduce this years bill, I want my £92 back" the guy on the phone tried saying that it's standard procedure blah blah blah but I just told him "when I owe you money I have to pay, well you owe me money and I want it back!" after a few sighs and huffs and me asking him if I do infact have a choice whether to take my money back now or have it reduce my bill he admitted I can request a refund. So I did, and apparently I will have a £92 cheque within 21 days :D

My council tax bill is always paid 10 months of the year and I usually have Feb/March off as well but last year in Jan I was skint so I rang them up and they told me as long as Januarys payment is received before March they can't do a damn thing about it. So I paid Jan's payment the last week of March lol. It pisses them off but theres nothing they can do about it as long as the years payment is covered before April x

If you're paying 10 months you don't pay Feb and March and the new financial year starts April you start then... if you've been paying that for 12 months of the year they should refund it to you xx

I just received my letter for next yearly installments and its gone down from £123 a month to £93 a month! :) Happy days!

Guess we overpaid last year x
