council housing

right so you need to provide proof that she is asking you to leave. Otherwise they will make you stay there.

if she is prepared to give you that proof, it will make life a whole lot easier

You can become homeless for two reasons

1. because your landlord has legally evicted you via a court proceeding (section 21 eviction)

2. because a family member or live in landlord of which you have no formal arrangement has asked you to leave and given you sufficient notice

so before the end of this month (october) you need to get her to give you a letter asking you to leave by the end of next month (november)

you COULD say you are overcrowded where you are, but they will keep you there for years

A council house is one thing I wish I had, but have come to terms with the fact I'll never have one and will probably be privately renting for the rest of our lives (or at least until we somehow manage to gather enough money for a deposit on a mortgage). We can't even 'cheat' the system - my in-laws live in a large house with one bedroom and bathroom downstairs, and three bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs which they never use, so if we were to move in there, we'd have our own bedroom, bathroom, and Poppy would also have her own bedroom with one room spare. We wouldn't stand a chance as that certainly isn't 'overcrowded'.
I definitely agree that cheating the system is probably the only way and how how the majority of people do it, and I don't blame them. I just wish we could!

so im on locata now, and its given me a few options, house is badly overcrowded or i am going to be homeless in 28days, which one do i go for.

You need to provide proof of eviction, so get an eviction notice now for the end of November, send it in with your agreement or they will ask you to provide proof of what your doing. Tick overcrowding for now but you should be able to say in a few weeks that your circumstances have changed. If you arent given sufficient notice (over a month) by your mum then they can find you guilty of collusion. So go with overcrowding but get an eviction notice NOW from her and then send it in to them so they can re-classify you later on

p.s i fail to see how it can be 'cheating' a system when the system is intrinsically corrupt, they would have waited for my mum to go bankrupt and have her house repossessed before finding me housing, not because its legal or fair, just because they can, thats their way of 'cheating' to get out of finding us sufficient housing.

I dont see how i (or anyone else) is a 'cheater' for looking out for our family before a corrupt government system that doesnt work.

hey hun
you will have to fight to get anything. well i say fight if you're entitled you;re entitled but you will have to jump through hoops. me and oh have just had to do it for HB etc fx, im not up for 'cheating the system' either. be honest. if the house is overcrowded, then get a letter from your mum saying its over crowded and you need to leave etc........if you cheat the system you will be found out!!

Big hugs hun x

Awww thanks so much, my local borough is ealing. Says to fill out an online form, will do that today. Someone told ne even if they don't find a house we can find a place to rent nd they'll pay our rent. Is that true? I'm really scared they'll put me on an estate, the ones around here are horrible.
You get to choose where you live, they can't force you onto an estate, it's a bidding system. Piece of advice with Ealing council though as I'm discovering this with them myself now. NAG. They like to conveniently 'lose' application forms because they're too lazy to actually go through them. You have to be really pushy with them til they get the hint. We still haven't gotten anywhere and we're hardly in savoury conditions either, you really have to go to town on them. Good luck hon x

Hmm I've heard so much about them being slack, I'm going to push for it, mum n dad want us to stay but even they're saying its overcrowded and with oh being jobless life's hard as it is, they even refused him jobseekers as I'm getting mat pay, what 500 quid when's there's so many costs, still waiting for child tax credit forms to come, its been 2weeks.. honestly the whole systems a joke.. u csnt get anywhere without getting on their case

Yup it's ridiculous really. Nagging them until they get so annoyed they cave in seems to be the only way to get anywhere.

Trying to fill out the form, but the dob section isn't wrking ergh

this forms a damn joke!just tried the d-o-b section again and it isnt going in :(
my parents said that they are willing to lend me money for a flat to rent for the 1st month and to apply for housing benefit to have rest paid after, can i apply for housing benefit and wait for a council house at the same time?

Really, me n oh are thinking maybe it'll b better to just rent a 1bed flat n get housing benefit, he long does council take with housing benefit? we don't want to b in a ling queue for council housing, we are so confused :'(

getting housing benefit and getting a council house are two different things

you wont get a council house if you are in a flat, you need to be overcrowded or on the verge of eviction to even be accepted for one

if you get a flat, the council will pay your housing benefit, it takes about 4 weeks for them to make a decision.

Thanks so much!! I duno what i would do without u guys!
.can we apply for housing benefit in advance

no you cant x

you need a tenancy agreement to receive housing benefit

hmm so it would be worth mum n dad lending us money for the 1st month then apply for housing benefit

You can actually apply for hb and ctb 13 weeks in advance. But you do need to know where your going to be living before applying.

I work as a hb ctb assessor
