cough medicine in pregnancy ???

well, im full of cold/flu.
ive got the usual complaints + a cough now. I went to see my doctor last week about what i can/nt take but didnt ask bout cough medicine does anyone know if any are safe to take... if not does anyone know natural remedies???

i had bronchial flu during my pregnancy, got quite bad. in the end, doc prescribed 'codeine linctus'
was great stuff

thanks for your reply,
my doctor said he doesnt want to pescribe anything other than paracetamol for temp and headaches unless i develop a serious infection.
so i gotta wait for me to get worse before he will do anything...

IIRC its only paracetamol you can take.

I'd just stay hydrated, sip hot water to loosen any ickyness in your throat. Hot water/tea with honey and lemon. If your nose is bunged up try some Vicks or menthol crystals.

If you don't have a temp and other flu symptoms I seriously doubt its actual flu. You'd be unable to move your head off the pillow, let alone out of bed if it were flu. I'd think its a stinker of a cold and you can get through that with paracetamol, soak in a warm bath or shower and so on.

Its not great but I had buttercup syrup when I had a horrid cough in tri 1

stick with the paracetamol and lots of fluids - honey and lemon helps some people but the over the counter meds that are given for cough are not suitable for pregnancy really. Codeine linctus is often used for cough - it just treats the symptoms - it is not a cure - there is no cure for the common cold

Codeine tends to be a good placebo but in trials it doesn't really do a lot for coughs unless you take huge doses!

Codeine is one of those meds that is probably safe if used occasionally in pregnancy but it is related to morphine, pethidine etc and you don't really want to take it unless you have to.

Sorry you are feeling rough but it will pass - paracetamol, hot drinks +/honey and lemon, breathign in steam from a bowl of water can help if you are bunged up.

codiene linctus really helped me and i only took prescribed dose.
i was really suffering. was the worst time ever. believe me, you KNOW when you have flu.
