Hello there,

I thought I would share my story as it would be interesting if anyone else has been in a similar position and could give me some advice.
I know a lot of woman are against C sections so I am not asking to be bullied or have negative comments thrown my way, just helpful ones.

When I first found out I was pregnant I was over joyed but ridden with fear as I have always had a major fear of giving birth (due to my mums horrific first birth and almost died) as well as other issues. In my first booking in appointment I told the midwife I wanted an Elective C section as I feel personally this is the rite choice for me. It has taken AGES to finally get a referral to a consultant after switching hospitals.

I had to go and speak to the consultant about my fears and worries, and she basically said she was pro vaginal, which I am not but would support my decision if I still wanted a elective after the counselling I have to go too.

Well I know you don't get a booking in date until 36 weeks so what would happen if I were to go into labour early? All it says in my notes is that she would support my decision?

Help please x

Firstly congrats.......

My friend chose to have an elective section she done all research and went in adament she wanted a c section i think they did try and change her mind but she won her case and i think she was told that as a section was her choice she wudnt be consultant led care

She was booked in for section at 38weeks i think - unfortunately i cant comment on what wud happen if u went into labour before ur date tho i think my friend started to have niggles thd day before her section xx

Thank you for your reply. I am adamant but I think because I didn't speak up enough (my husband went in quite strong) she offered me counselling which I have to do and if I still want one after the counselling I will get one.

I see the consultant again in a few weeks and I will tell her that my mind has not changed.

Do you mind me asking why your friend had an elective?

Stacey X

I think it was because she couldnt face going through natural child birth not sure if she had counselling tho i will ask and find out for you (it was over 3yrs ago and at the minute im lucky if i czn remember wat i done 3minutes ago lol x

Hi,
Congratulations on your pregnancy.
I think each birth is your own choice, which is why we have these options and so we should.
My friend was an elective section, 2 of them have been and one had her section under GA.
one of my friends who was booked in at 38 weeks went in to labour 4 days prior to this, see called the hospital her waters had gone and she was told to come in and they did her section that day.
They also had great recoveries.
Wish you all the best and good luck

Thank you for your messages. The consultant hasn't actually booked me in yet as she wants to see me after the counselling. I will tell her that I haven't changed my mind. I just don't know what would happen if I went into labour before she had booked me in for anything and no consent forms were signed xx

She may be required to send you for counciling seeing as you dont have a medical reason but you cant be refused a CS if thats what you want.

I have my counselling tomorrow. I will not be changing my mind. I know they have to go through all the risks but I know them already x

Ok so I went to the class I got recommended to go to for my anxiety and I don't feel like it helped much at all. I was due to meet a lady to talk about my fears and I was told she was off sick only to walk in the class and ask if I could chat after which I agreed too. Class finished she apologised and said that she couldn't see me as she had another appointment. Tried to re schedule and I said I would email her.

Annoyed because I arrived at 9:15am to meet her agreed time only to be told she was off sick.

I emailed her telling her I can't meet as its hard for me to get more time off work and also I haven't change my mind and that I still want a c section after being told all the risks.

I have to go back to my consultant on the 30th. Do I tell her out strait everything and that I haven't and will not be changing my mind? Also that she messed me about?

Things happen, sometimes people are sick unexpectedly so she might have had a good reason. In the end the consultant will have to agree to a CS if that is what you want.

I was just confused as I was told she wasn't in and I wasn't even told. She then turns up in the class and had an opportunity to talk to me and didn't.

I am not backing down.
