Yesterday Charlie struggled a bit to go to the loo and when he did there was a tiny bit blood in it. Today he has been struggling again but hasnt managed to go yet. This is completely new and no changes to his milk or anything so am a bit confused why its happening now. He has normally had at least one dirty nappy by this time of day.

Have phoned the health visitor but she is not in, does anyone know if there is anything i can give him if it doesnt improve?

Edited to add he is 8 weeks old.

Has he by any chance had his first jabs in the last couple of days hun?

My Charlie had the runs after having his, and the hv said it could have gone either way.

You can give him a bit of juice to try and help. Not baby juice, and not squash, just real fruit juice. Dilute it 1 part juice to 6 parts boiled, cooled water. Even a little bit will help to loosen him.

Oh, and try not to be too concerned about the blood. You only need to start worrying if there is loads, or it starts to look like redcurrant jelly.

No, jabs are next week, he did manage to go earlier but it was a lot less than normal and was quite powdery if that makes any sense??

He has been struggling most of the day and the health visitor said to give him cooled boiled water but didnt say anything about juice. I may try that if it doesnt improve. My mum said they used to put soft brown sugar in boiled water in her day but i am not convinced sugar is any good for him at this age. I think i will see what happens over next 24 hours. Any more suggestions would be great.

is he on bottles i take it? try topping his feeds up with water to loosen him up a bit, or go to doc and get some lactulose, its perfectly safe for babies as its only sugar syrup

Yes lactalose is great, i have to use it with Leorah as she had poo problems too :)

Thanks guys, I used cooled boiled water with a little bit soft brown sugar in it and within an hour he had managed to poo - lots!!, hopefully it is only a temporary thing as i dont want to give him this too often but at least i know if necessary it works. I suppose its the same idea as lactulose as that is sugar based.

lol, its amazing how fast their little bodies work, by half one Alfie hadnt done a poopie today so i gave him so cooled boiled water and with his next bottle at 2 we had one full nappy, and im talking full full, it was so full that as i was holding his legs in the air and wiping his bum he got some on his hand and had to do a slow motion movie style dive to stop him eating it ... ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke:

Yeuckkkkkkkk!!! Dont you just love them!!!! Eating poo is such a boy thing i think!!!
