Was just thinking about my dates - at the scan last week they measured the baby and put me back.

BUT by my estimation (i.e. counting back weeks to 0), if they are right, then I conceived only 5 days after I started bleeding in November (which itself was only around 4 days after I was still getting BFP!).

Surely this is not possible???

In which case, should I be worried that Twinkle is smaller than he ought to be?

im sure twinkle is just fine hun!!! alhto it does confuse me how they move dates back and forward.

I wouldnt worry hun, they never get it exactly right, its just an estimate

LOL just spoke to my mum and she says at her 14 week scan when she was pregnant with me they put her back 3 weeks -meaning she tested positive before she was pregnant :rotfl:

Also by their definition I wasn't 2 weeks early but 5 weeks (6lb 7oz a pretty good weight for a 35 weeker!)

im sure everything is fine, i suppose getting dates accurate is more difficult on earlier scans x

I have no idea how the work the dates out - it's so confusing.
I was on the pill when I found out I was pregnant so I couldn't understand how the doctor dated me in the first place. He was spot on according to the 8wk scan. Wonder what'll happen at next week's scan. I would quite like to move forward a couple of weeks....getting annoyed at waiting already and 6mths still to go!

I don't understand how midwifes do it....with all of my pregnancies they have always changed my date by 1 day! But it changes alot by the scan. You could go for your next scan and get a different due date still anyhoo.

My understanding of it is this - if they say your baby measures 7 weeks, what they *actually* mean is 'your baby will be born in about 33 weeks. Normal gestation is between 30 and 42 weeks, so it could be 9 weeks after conception and you'll end up being pregnant for 42 weeks, but because they work on a 40 week gestation period, they date it that way to make it easier - rather than saying 'you're 9 weeks on but I reckon you're looking at a 42 week pregnancy' they just put you back two weeks and assume every pregnancy is 40 weeks. It can change as your pregnancy progresses, as every baby develops at a different speed.

God, I hope that makes sense!!

Not at all but thanks for trying to educate me :rotfl:

I'm a stickler for punctuality so my baby better arrive on 24th July or else! I was born on my due date - thats how considerate I was to my mum!

Bex you know when you had sex, they put dates back and forth all the time due to the babys size. Yes little one might not be as big as 'guidelines' its all balls anyway. You know when you had sex, your dates are probably right.

I calculated imogen arriving on the 9th august. She did arrive on the 13th but when she was born you could immediately see that she wasoverdue - so my dates were right. I went for a scan the thursday before i had her and they put me back 3 weeks :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: becuase she was only 6lb 9z. Lol she was born the monday after 6lb 9oz , 4 days late they really do base there dates on size so i wouldnt pay much attention just now. Go by your own dates.

More often than not, they can estimate the EDD by the size of the baby. Each country has their own "standards" in terms of how big the baby should be at a certain stage/week. Most likely they will measure the size of the baby from crown to rump (head to butt) and then give an estimate (with a percentage of how much it could be off). That's what happened with my baby.

I hope that made sense

I really don't quite know when we had sex - it would be hard to narrow it down with the amount we were doing :rotfl:
