Sorry this is the second post i've done about my blood pressure.. everyone else is getting sick of me going on about it though :oops:

My midwife has been seeing me every two days as my blood pressure has been around 160/85 for the past few weeks, at my last visit it was 140/90 and there was alot of protein in my urine so she sent me to the hospital the next day...

They monitored my blood pressure on one of those electronic machine things (dont know what they're called, hehe) every 5 minutes, 4 times and it was only 120/75 (lower than it's ever been!) and there was no protein in my urine at all!

How can this be?!?!

Sorry for whinging and whinging. I'm just glad i'm 39 weeks tomorrow so it's nearly over, it's getting me down :(

so u got low blood pressure?

are u res neg? i am and mine was but dont worry about that. i didnt have protein in my waters tho but had to take iron tabs due to low iron. about it really dunno what else to say . not read your other topic yet :)*labor dust* to you your baby comes soon. :cheer:

Try not to worry you are nearly there! If there was something more sinsiter going on surely they'd keep you in?
Good luck and keep chin-up :hug:

BP goes up and down for everyone, and when pregnant it is natural for it to fluctuate because of the extra weight and blood, so don't get all upset because yours has changed :hug:
If there was anything wrong the hospital would have found it, they didn't, so don't worry yourself about the tests, they proved you're just fine :)
Your BP will be based on what's called a base line, which is the first BP measurement you had at your first MW appointment (that's how they do it here anyway). So all BP's after that are said to be high/low according to that, now as you get more pregnant its going to change, but that doesn;t mean its a bad thing, you're pregnant, it's most likely to change :hug:
Our BP rises for many reasons, fear, excitement, tiredness, anxiety, all things you can go through when worried about an upcoming birth, a hospital test and not knowing what's happening. This is commonly called "white coat syndrome." So it is important to know your regular, relaxed blood pressure by measuring it at home.
120/80 is said to be the 'norm', so from your last test you're 'normal', so get your feet up, get a magazine and a nice hot chocolate and relax roxanne, you're fine and very soon going to be Mummy to a brand new baby :cheer: :hug: :hug: :hug:
Very best wishes :hug:

I agree with Reshoes! I'm a classic "White coater" :roll: BP ALWAYS higher when taken by the midwife. I check at home every few days and it averages around 120/65 - so no problems there. I sit down for the midwife and bang - up it goes!! I do wonder sometimes though, whether those "old style" pump-up-by-hand readers give higher readings than the digital ones :think:

Anyway - I think the tests you have had at the hospital are going to be more accurate and by the sound of it, it's looking fine. Not much longer for you now :hug: :hug:

Good luck :D

Thank you all, you've really set my mind at rest :D :hug:

Just gotta wait now, 39 weeks today! :cheer:

Oooh a note on the BP cuffs that they use on your arm, if you're a larger lady, like myself :D , always make sure they use a large cuff, if not they will definitely get an inaccurate reading, make a point of mentioning it at any hospital visits too as they usually never use the right cuff :wink:
Very best roxanne, how exciting!!! :cheer: :hug: :cheer:

Like the girls say..... the hospital would have found a problem if there was one..... as for the protein in your urine.... as we get nearer our term we can often have discharge that contaminates the sample... this is normal discharge and nothing to worry about...... so try to relax as you have just a little 'me' time left before its all baby ,baby, baby.... :dance:

My BP is always really low..... 90/60.......
and the protein in urine has plagued me since the start of this pregnancy so now i don't worry about it!!!

good luck and i am so looking forward to reading your birth story soon..

Yeah, that was an issue early in my pregnancy when they should have been using a large cuff but didn't think of it till the hospital midwife pointed it out :roll:

Had to spend the night in hospital last night as i had a really bad headache and my BP was all over the place, had to be monitored for pre-eclampsia, everything turned out ok though.. I wish he'd hurry up and arrive now..... although i'm not so sure after hearing the screams of women in labour last night! :shock: :shock: :shock:

The slightest things will raise and lower your BP, from;

* standing up
* walking
* eating
* Waking up
* bending down
* being tired
* laying down
* talking

You see what I mean?

However, 160 is very high and ina danger zone, i am sure that your MW must have misread, otherwise you would have been in hospital, maybe it was a boo boo on her part?

120 is average for your time, mine sits at 125 - 130 each week, anything over 150, they would have me in.

Just to keep in mind, if you were 'slightly over weight' pre-pregnancy, your BP will have a tendency to be higher anyhow. I wouldn't worry too much, if you're at 120, you are fine. Maybe you may want to suggest to the MW not to take your BP straight away and to let you st down and have a little rest before doing so?

Good luck xx
