Hiya All,

I am hoping some of you will be able to help me become less confused as looking at what benefit are there and what you can be entitled to is proving more and more confusing....
I currently work full time and I know about the maternity leave part and the entitlements there but everything else I really haven't a clue.....
My husband and I will be living in forces accomodation at the time babs is born, I am hoping not to go back to work and going by calculations I will only be entitled to less that £500 a month, is this correct? Are there any other benefits I would be able to apply for?
Many thanks to those that can help me xx

If your husband and you are in work you can apply for tax credits maybe when on SMP you can change your details with them again and if you don't return to work again there is tax credits. Circumstances can change the entitlement ...

When LO is born you are entitled to child benefit, this claim form will be in your hospital bounty pack, make sure you get your pack before leaving.

Because we don't know the ins and outs of your private income it may be worth speaking to an adviser at the local job centre?

Hey! I'm in similar situation to you, work full time and I am going to be on statutory maternity pay of £496 a month, I know we get £20 a week child benefit once baby is born. After that I'm going to call hm revenue and customs to get a tax credits form so I can see if I'm entitled to that. Pretty sure we are.

I'll be living with my mother an partner but we are still entitled to working and child tax credit I'm pretty sure

if you go on the direct.gov.uk website they have a calculator of how much tax credits we are entitled to. I just pretended I had one baby already, and it was like £3700 for the year! I pretended I was single though, also depends on combined income. Can't be more than £55000 or something. X

Hiya,
Thanks for that..... will have a look but as soon as I look at the gov site my head just about explodes lol.

I wasn't too sure if we would be entitled to working tax credits when we are on SMP? So thanks for clearing that up.

Combined income will certainly be below the £55000 mark. But would I be giving figures of when I am on SMP not my wages the year prior? Sorry have never claimed anything in my life and finding it all very confusing.

xx

When claiming tax credits they work it on previous year so it'll be what your getting now! Tax credit entitlement has gone down to joint annual income of under £40,000 now. And like lexi said your get your £20 a week child benefit!
