Has anyone had one before?
I have to have one tomorrow and just my luck but my AF arrived this morning, will I still be able to have it?
Also can I eat anything today? I've taken my laxative at 8am and on the instructions it says I can eat plain stuff untill 2pm but I'm not sure and I can't ring the hosp untill 11am :(

I'm so worried about it tomorrow

Depends on your modesty! You wont have any pants on when they do it and will be lying on your side with knees up so I dont think AF would make any difference. If it was me I'd wear a tampon or cancel lol!

My hubby has had loads of these, if you are really nervous they give you a mild sedative that only lasts for an hour or so.

You won't be allowed to have a tampon in, but you do get a rather attractive pair of paper knickers to wear, so should be able to wear a sanitary towel.

Hope it goes ok, and don't panic.

I'll tell you a funny story about one of the times my hubby had one to make you smile.
He was sedated for it, was wheeled back up to his room where I was sitting waiting. He slept for another 30min or so and the nurse came in and asked if he wanted anything to eat (ie. soup or sandwich) and Brian, still half asleep shouted (and I mean shouted!!)
"yes, please that would be lovely... can I get salad and both sauces on it"
the nurse said "sorry Mr Hunter, what do you mean?"
Brian... "My kebab, I want salad and both the sauces"

   :rotfl: :rotfl: so embarrasing!

They never gave me any paper knickers! Warrington hospital = tight :rotfl:

Thank you ladies. I think I will have it, just worried as my periods are normally very heavy :( just hope that they aren't tomorrow! Laxatives haven't really done anything so far but make me feel sick, I'm not looking forward to taking more at 3pm :( Think I will ring the hospital in a minute to double check everything though!

:rotfl: :rotfl: Bless him.
I hope i'm not too sedated cause when I had my endoscopy last year when I came round like 3hours later (I think they had to give me quite a bit of sedative cause I was very tense and crying my eyes out) the lady was sitting talking to me just before I went and I ignored her  think I thought I was still asleep :)

One thing though, do you get bad wind after  out of everything I'm worried about being looked at by a fit doctor :rotfl: cause I hate my body anyway and also farting haha

I've had one and I think Zoe (Ruby's Mummy) has too.

I was worried like you but I was out of it and didn't feel a thing. The worst thing about the whole procedure was taking the laxatives. Just don't move more than a metre from a toilet, that's all I'd say!

Don't worry...you'll be fine. It's really quick and you don't feel a thing. Not even sore afterwards.

Lx

EDIT:
PS: I did have a bit of wind afterwards but not loads and I seemed to manage to wait until I was in my Mum's car to ... let go!

I have these every 2 years - I had to take my tampon out. Also you shouldn't eat anything outwith the instructions on the laxative (I get Picolax :puke: ) because it makes it difficult for them to see everything in your bowel. Good luck, hope it goes well x

Thanks guys well after the 2nd sachet of picolax it made me go toilet but really not that much, is that normal? I'm worried I'll get there in the morning and they say they cant do it cause my bowels arent empty enough & its made me feel so bl88dy sick, I feel like I'm gonna yack up  and my tummy hurts. I'm never doing this again, although its to try and figure out why I keep feeling so sick all the time I will never intentionally make myself ill again :(
Sorry bit moany

Drink lots and lots of water... it flushes the bowel. I have regular colonoscopies and endoscopes and endoscopes are always far worse IMO..

I assume you must have been having some problems... as I have a narrowing in my bowel it can take some time for the picolax to start working...but it also needs lots of water to work effectively.

As for periods, mention it to you nurse when you get ther...but you won't be able to wear a tampon as weenik says.

Don't worry...they won't sedate you as much as the endoscope because you don't panic as much, here in Spain they don't give sedation for them, and its rather uncomfortable but its not really painful so you'll be just fine with a little sedation...... and ask to see the monitor... it a) takes your mind off things and b)I find it really interesting...like looking at xrays

:rotfl:

Hey Guys,
Sorry only just updated. I had it done yesterday morning at 8:30am and was home by 10:30am. I wasn't sedated either because what I had in the end was a Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, It wasn't all that bad though, was a little sore yesterday as they took samples and pumped air into me but feel alot better this morning.
Thanks for all the advice Ladies
