My wee boy is 11 weeks old today & has been doing really well :D

BUT!!! the past 3 evenings he has been really unsettled, constant screaming, arching his back, red in the face, refusing a cuddle & dummy only settling when he is given his bottle even though he is not due a feed for another 2 hours, even then he will only drink about 3/4oz (he usually has 6/7oz for his last feed before bed).

He is happy & smiley during the day but come 6ish he unleashes the fury big style! Because of this pattern I'm thinking maybe he is Colic :( We have been having problems getting all his wind up too so that could be bothering him. Also he doesn't sleep much during the day usually he wakes at 9am, he will sleep if we are out for a walk or in the car but only for about an hour max then not go to bed until 10:30ish so he's probably overtired too :( Any tips on how to get him to sleep during the day? Should I start putting him in his cot & leaving him for a bit? (obviously only if he is fed & changed)

Can anyone offer any advice, does this sound like Colic? If so is infacol any good?

Incidentally on the advice of my H.V I've started giving him hungry baby milk (SMA White) in his last bottle, been doing this for 5 days. Not sure if this is contributing to him being unsettled, he usually kicks off way before he is due his hungry baby feed :?

Its so difficult, I hate seeing him upset, I wish I knew how to comfort him :(

Definitely sounds like colic hun!
I never had much luck with Infacol but it works for others! I prefer Gripe water! I hear Colief is supposed to be the best but it is expensive if you cant get it on prescription from the doc!

Your baby is sounding like my baby! Come 5 or 6pm it all kicks off! Its even beginning to happen during the day aswell now. I'm pretty sure with Ollie that it IS wind as he grunts and strains and cries and then lets out a massive great fart!

I've tried infacol, gripewater and dentinox. Infacol and Dentinox are fairly good. I think i prefer the Dentinox as i can put it in the bottle. The Gripewater i wasnt keen on atall as for me it was a nightmare to give. I used an oral syringe but theres so much liquid Ollie just kept bringing it all back up again. I've not tried Colief yet as it seems very expensive but ive heard it can be fairly good.

Good luck hun, i know how hard it can be!

I put the gripe water in an ounce or two of cooled boiled water! :D
Also I changed Lola's milk to C&G comfort and that really really helped!

Thanx 4 the advice girls! Started infacoil y/day. Really hope it helps. Its difficult dealing with an unhappy baby! X

Sounds a bit coincidental that it started around the time you started giving him the SMA white. Colic usually starts when babies are younger and ends around 12 weeks though all babies are different and it can start earlier/later. Do you know why your HV suggested giving that milk? Mine actually warned me off it because it's known to be a very common cause of constipation though I know it does work for some people. My cousin had huge problems with it causing her LO to be constipated and uncomfortable too.

Sorry that's probably not much help but it's something else to think about, it's miserable when they're like this

Well he is on 6oz bottles and more often than not he is totally downing them, she said at the moment his tummy is too small to increase his feeds so to change to SMA White

He has been fine last night & tonight (so far  ) however, if it flares back up I will try changing the milk. I guess its all just trial & error at first!

Lola-Mae is drinking 7oz now hun and she is smaller than your babs?!
My HV actually told me that the first milks are the closest to breast milk and try and not give the second milks until at least 6 months!

Charlie is was 12lbs when he got his jags 2 weeks ago. Not sure what he is now though. Is Lola Mae on 7oz 5 times a day?

All health visitors seem to say different things :wall: I checked the tin & it does say suitable from birth

Some days 5 bottles some days 4! She sleeps upto 12 hours but sometimes shes hungry again after just 3 hours! It depends on her but I would say mainly 4!

HV all say different things! Its confusing isnt it? lol

I think if it was colic baby would cry most of the time with it, im not totally sure but i think thats right.
Did you gradually put him onto the other milk or just go straight onto it??, as it may not be agreeing with him, i always found using sma didnt go down well with Hope, she used to get so constipated :(
Id try giving him lots of cooled boiled water during the day and maybe after 2oz of feed wind him then 2 more and do it like that, sounds like a bitof trapped wind to me

I've been gradually introducing it. He seems to be ok now though, maybe the infacol has helped. I was praying it wasn't colic, maybe he was just having a few off days, I have loads of them

Ah right thought you would have done, i found sma to be a pain in the bum with hoppe, she was sooo constipated on it so went onto cow and gate  I have too many of days :rotfl:
