After having a few weeks of really good skin I've suddenly started getting loads of spots and now have a cold sore!
It's just sod's law - haven't been out for weeks and I've got a party at the weekend and loads of visiting (we're planning on telling our families this weekend)

Does anyone know if there is anything I can take for this (pretty sure I can't use Zovirax which is what I usually use)? Also heard tea tree is a no no as well

I'm 9 weeks

Thanks in advance
Gemma

What makes you think we can't use zovirax or tea tree?? I am quite concerned now, I use alot of tea tree on my skin. I thought it was only steroid based skin products that were dangerous?

I got one at about 6 weeks and I just used TCP and compeed which are the funny little plaster things and it took longer to clear up but it certainly helped.

Nasty little buggers arn't they! I always get them :x

I asked my pharmacist (sp) if i was ok to use zovirax and he said it was fine. i was around 15 weeks along at the time but he never asked how far along i was and didnt even look at me to judge. if you are worried ask your pharmacist. I hate cold sores, i always get them

Hi EveMarie

Sorry if I worried you - I tried to find online what I could use before posting to this forum to ask the question. It was furtive searching at work (I've not told work I'm pg yet). It wasn't an official source re tea tree - just a post to a forum so I'm not sure what a doc would say.

It seems a lot of advice on skin products etc is that people won't say it's OK to use if it hasn't been tested specifically on pregnant women (which is apparently difficult to do and probably not cost effective for companies) so although a product hasn't been shown to do any harm, no-one can say it definitely won't harm a fetus.....it makes it really difficult to decide what to do. It's easy to make a choice based on risk when you only have to think of yourself - I think it's the thing I've found most difficult so far and have the feeling I'm erring on the v cautious side, but who knows??

A quick search of tea tree and pregnancy on google returned some results which said it was OK, others said not to use it, so I think it falls into the 'untested' camp - but probably worth checking with your GP/midwife
Hope this helps
Gemma

Hun I wouldn't worry to much about the cold sore cream. I've suffered with them for years and used Zovirax cream when I was carrying Jordan and he's now a healthy 6 yr old. Not sure about the tea-tree oil though. If your unsure just ask your doctor to be on the safe side.
