Cloth nappies, which ones?

I would like to use cloth nappies on my baby but was wondering did you buy lots of different types first, a few of each and see which ones were best for you and baby or did you just go for it and buy one type then hope they are ok? There are so many to choose from, I have a few samples from a local scheme but still undecided which type to go for and probably need to start buying them soon.

I would try to get a few different types second hand (or 'preloved') to try out. You won't know what works best for your baby until he or she is here! Also you'll need to bear in mind how you're gonna dry them - if you don't have a tumble dryer then you probably want something that is mostly microfibre as they dry quickest
