Hello Girls,

My friend has just phoned me to tell me that her little boy has chicken pox....I am worried because me and my little girl spent the day with them yesterday. I am 30 weeks pregnant - will it affect me? What if my little girl gets it?

If you have had chicken pox before and have an immunity then you'll be fine. I think the blood tests done during pregnany should tell you whether you are immune or not. If you are unsure, I would contact your midwife straightaway.

Thanks Mildly,

I think I have had chicken pox - will have to find out ASAP!

Exactly what I was gonna say. There's up to a 21 day incubation period so you won't know for another 3 weeks if your little girl will get it but even if she does then it'll be well out of the way before your LO arrives. Hope you're immune x

I had to stay away from chicken pox as i was on drugs which suppress the immune system. When i was worried, i rang NHS direct and they went through it with me. Cant remember what they said though which isnt much help! I was told by someone else though that you can actually get it again so id just check it out to be on the safe side.

My son got chicken pox when I was about 16 weeks pregnant but I was told I would be fine as I had already had chicken pox.

Thanks for your replies,

I am going to phone the midwife to be on the safe side...I am sure I will be fine because I am positive I have had it. I think it is the 2nd trimester and at the end of the first that iot can cause damage anyway - not really sure.

As stated, if my little girl does get it, it should be gone before the baby arrives...

Will let you know the outcome!

good luck, I'm sure everything will be fine though. I had a similar scare during my first tri when a little boy in DS's class had German measles. It turned out I had immunity and everything was fine, but I know how worrying it can be
