Our little girl Jasmine Scarlett Louise Draper arrived on arrived 20th 12:25am - went into labour right on my due date! Just got home this afternoon so we're still settling in! An amazing experience - it makes you want to high five all the other mummy's afterwords!
Birth was good and staff at the our hospital I thought were exceptional! Really really supportive with what could have been a traumatic birth but actually wasn't!
Here's the low down - I hope it's not too much information!
Waters broke at home as a massive gush standing up off the bed (glad we'd purchased a waterproof sheet in advance!) rang hubby as he'd just left house for work. Rang hospital who advise to come in and be checked after waters anyway. No contractions so waited at home for our sainsburys delivery I'd ordered (thinking I'd never labour on my due date!) and cat to be taken to cattery. Continued to gush waters for next three hours waay more than I'd expected - they did say on a prior scan I had a lot of water. Went for check up -11:30ish no contractions yet so booked in for induction 9am Sunday morning if I didn't go into labour before hand. As soon as we got home contractions came on sudden and strong reliably every 2 mins apart managed an hour at home before heading back to hospital. I was lucky the pool room was free, very very briefly put on a monitor then was wheel chaired strait in.
Carried on having contractions every one -two mins apart in the pool - the water. Then had gas and air a few hours later (amazing stuff - I was talking complete nonsense!) but became quite woozy so was taken out of the pool as I was somehow managing 30second power naps between contractions. (It really is amazing what your body's capable of!) eventually had a diamorphine injection as the contractions were relentless! Got to 11:30pm only to be told I was only dilated to 6cm which was disappointing then checked over again at 12:10 when I must have been in the final stage as through the gas and air fog I said "that's it I'm done, finished!" - No wonder I had gone from 6 -9cm in well under an hr! I had her on my back, legs in stirrups in the end as that allowed me switch off the world and to focus all my remaining strength on the final pushing. Then she was born 12:25am 8pounds 1oz thankfully no tearing or grazes. Got immediate skin to skin time.
The next bit wasn't great - but staff were very supportive and quick. Placenta wouldn't come out after injection. Followed by a drip to push it out unsuccessfully so ended up having a spinal so they could manually remove it. Which was successful - unfortunately this meant a longer stay in hospital due to heavy blood loss just under 2 litres, so had to have two blood transfusions on Monday. Been a bit out of it but feeling so much better now. On iron tablets for three months.
Il follow this with some pictures!
I just can't believe she's here!!! I'm in love!
