I read somewhere last night that chances of getting pregnant at 40 reduces to 5 percent! Is that right? I will be 40 in 6 months and its a very scary stat. What do you think?
No that's not right at all. Most of the fertility studies for women are taken from data from 1850s rural France. More recently one of the highest abortiion rates has been not teenage girls but women in their 40s who assumed they were infertile. Also there is now evidence that sometimes the fertility kicks up a gear in the 40s and women release more than one egg per cycle. I recommend reading 'The impatient woman's guide to getting pregnant' as it dispels a lot of these myths. The NHS will have you belive that post 40s is a barren wasteland of infertility but I just think they don't have the money to fund older women. IVF doesn't work well over 40 but that's all.
If your lifestyle is pretty clean and you eat well you still have a good chance. Nutrition in our generation is far better than even our parents'. My Nan gave birth at 40 seventy years ago, and she grew up in an era before the NHS and with WW2 rationing.
My gran gave birth to twins at 43 and ...wait for it.. IT WAS UNPLANNED ha ha ha !! ..I hope I have her genes as I am 41 and currently TTCing our 3d and am not even thinking of my age . Good luck hun , lots of baby dust to you ❤️❤️❤️❤️
My gran gave birth at 42. I currently 7 week pregnant and will be 43 when this one arrives fingers crossed. Midwife told me much more women are able to conceive later now for many reasons such as improved diet and supplements etc. X
I know of three women who gave birth at the age of 48!! One of them is my great great grandma who gave birth to my great grandma at that age. So, if having a baby at 40+ wasn't possible, I wouldn't be here today! Hope this gives you some hope
My advice would be, don't focus too much on your age, stress won't do you any good! It's completely normal for TTC to take months, it may not be related to your age at all. I'm 30 and have been TTC for 14 months... It took my 20 year old sister 8 months to conceive her son, and yet I have a friend who fell pregnant at age 40 by accident. There are many variables at play when TTC, age is only a small part of the picture, and could even be completely irrelevant in your case.
Hey thanks this cheered me up a little. It’s just that I got pregnant really quickly with my daughter at 34 and now 6 months TTC and nothing so maybe it’s just luck. Hopefully it will happen for me soon too.
