I've had both a normal labour and an elective c section.
My first was an awful experience a 4 day back to back labour followed by being refused an epi because there was no doctor available who could do them, I ended up with emergency forceps with just gas and air!! I lost 1.5 litres of blood, had an episiotomy and tears to my vaginal wall, I couldn't get out of bed with the pain and dizziness for nearly two weeks
Second time around I asked for a elective c section was given a date at my 16 week consultant app for 39 weeks. In comparison to my last birth it was a lovely relaxed experience.
On the day I turned up in the morning went straight to the ward settled into my bed space and then off to theatre a couple of hours later, all went to plan we and we spent time in recovery establishing bf, then went back to the ward I was up and about that evening, catheter and cannula were out and I was busy looking after lo by myself with no problems. We went home day 2, we were out and about on day 3 visiting relatives and I also remember cleaning the kitchen floor day 5 on my hands and knees! The only problem I came across which lasted a few weeks was pain i got when getting in and out of bed (laying down to sitting.I had an excellent recovery I'm not sure it the same for everyone though. xx
