I've got 2 cats - Oscar, 2 years old and Tobey, 1 year old.

Tobey is a VERY nervous cat and went through a bad stage last year of peeing on the leather couch a lot. We changed his litter to clumping litter and we scoop the clumps twice a day. It worked immediately. We have only had a couple of 'accidents' in the last 7 months.

Obviously with me being pregnant it isn't ideal (when is it though?!) to have a cat peeing on anything!! He doesn't cope very well at first with things changing and is the same around new people. It took my dad staying for a whole day for Tobey to be comfortable enough around him, now he runs straight to my dad when he visits!

With the baby due in 3 weeks I am getting really concerned that this change will be too much for him. We don't want to give him away, that is extreme last resort for us. Even the thought of not having him around is making me a bit upset the now but I know that I have to think about the baby.

My friend has an 11 week old son and whenever she visits he is VERY curious about the baby but after an hour he gets used to the noises and carries on with daily cat life! I am hoping that is a good sign.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

ive got 11 cats at the moment  ( just had 5 kittens) a couple of my toms started weeing on things although it wasnt out of nerves i used bleach to get rid of the cats scent and that seemed to stop them!! if u dont want to use bleach try something else that has a strong scent fabric conditioner maybe???

Hmm, i have a few cats and i find if they o something strange then i have to backtrack and work out why they are doing it, but as for using the home as my toilet, i clean thetray immediately and keep the ctas in the kitchen for a week until they sort themselves out. Which is exactly why im not getting any more cats afterwards!

Cats really hate citrus smells. I'm sure I've read somewhere that spraying citronella in a moses basket prior to a babies arrival can prevent a cat from wanting to sleep in it. Perhaps if you spray your sofa with it then Tobey won't want to come anywhere near it? :D

Yeh they dont like anything citrus so oranges and lemons will keep them away mabey get him a little swing bed that clips onto the heater so he has somewhere to be comfy instead of the sofa and then slowly teach him not to sleep on the sofa.

Has he been neautered? Our little boy cat was terrible for peeing on anything cold before we had him done. He used to use plastic bags or newspaper soon as he sat on it he would go so a leather sofa would of had the same effect on him. :)

Nicki, we got him neutered at 5 months. The second he tried to hump Oscar we got him sorted!

I've given the entire couch a wipe with a citrus wipe and so far he hasn't even went near the couch today.
