So I have two 8 month old male housecats. They have been great - never done the toilet anywhere other than the litterbox. Until this morning - my smaller one had pissed on my bed , my maternity pillow and everything. Then when I got up to clear it up he ran through the kitchen and pooed in my plastic washing basket. I'm so mad! What do you think it could be? Is it him 'spraying' or whatever its called? Hubby is away for another 5 weeks and I really can not be doing with them starting this when I'm due bubs in a few weeks.
Oh and sorry for posting in the wrong bit but I didnt think I'd get many replies in the other section! X

The only time my 3 have ever not gone in their litter tray is when their litter tray is dirty (they are very picky and the slightest mess pisses them off lol). I have 3 cats 2 boys and 1 girl... one of the boys has been done and i have never noticed him mess but the newest one has sometimes messed and he's not been done yet so i am going to get him done.

I think maybe you might have to get your 2 done aswell, it's not that expensive really.

The litter tray is cleaned so often that im close to being bankrupt with the amount of litter we are going through lol! Erm.... But yeah its looking like i will need to get them done. Im not to fussed about the price, i just didnt like the thought of it but it seems like its a must now :(
I was reading on google that it could be somethin to do with stress - I mean my hubby has been away for a week already and my sister has stayed most of it, plus i've had friends
Round quite a bit more than usual... Do you think that might not be helping either?
Thank you for replyin so quick! Xx

I would change mine constantly too if i had the choice but other half wont let me touch it now i'm pregnant lol! It could be due to having new people round more often so the cats are spraying to show it's their home and not your friends. x

Hi Levi89, we have 2 cats which were rescues from the RSPCA. We've had them a year now and they are a lot more settled, but one of them is still very timid and if we have visitors he will panic and has been known to poo in weird places - in the bath and the front room to name a couple. Our other cat was being bullied by a neighbour's cat and she was so distressed she started weeing everywhere and developed a UTI which the vet put down to stress again! It could be that your cats are feeling unsettled with different people coming and going, new things being brought into the house (for baby), and your OH being away? You can buy 'feliway' plug ins or a spray which calms cats down and hopefully stops them spraying and soiling everywhere. Also, if they haven't been spayed/neutered I would recommend this as cats (especially males) are known to spray and mark their territory if not done and that is really unpleasant - you don't want them spraying your baby's things :-(
Good luck and I hope you manage to get this problem sorted out ASAP before it gets you down too much xxx

My cat pissed on my bed once too, I was sooo furious. Of all the friggin places he picked the bloody bed!! I feel your pain. In that instance I had closed the door to the utility so he couldn't get to the tray so it was my fault really.

More recently the cat has crapped on the floor in the bedroom when we had workmen in the house. Now his tray was quite dirty so I don't know if it was that or he got spooked by the strangers but they certainly can do it when they are stressed out.

Id suggest making an extra big fuss of the cat to see if that helps. They are really intuitive creatures and can sense things you wouldn't expect. Oh and close the door to your bedroom!!

Biological washing powder should neutralise any wee on carpets x

Thanks ladies! I've had to go and buy new bedding. I got him treats for later and I'll give him some attention and cuddles incase its stress. I feel rotten if it is. Poor wee soul! Xxxx

They've both been neutured haven't they?

Hi Levi,
Im a vet and from what you've said it could definitely be related to stress. The faeces weren't diarrhoea like? As previously mentioned stress can cause a UTI so look out for frequent small puddles and any blood. Feliway has already been suggested and I would strongly recommend this. You can get it in a plug in like air fresher (humans cant smell it) or a spray. Also during times of stress it may be best to have more litter trays in the house in quiet areas. It is recommended that you have 1 more litter tray than the number of cats in the household. Also make sure there are a number of water bowls in the house. A common mistake is to place the water bowl next to the feeding bowl but actually cats will most often drink away from where they eat. Some cats are just more prone to stress than others. When baby comes along it may be that the same cat will start showing these signs again so be prepared well in advance with the feliway! Cats are funny things xx

Our cat has recently started doing this... she's two yr old and never had any accidents in the house before..

We took her to the vets to rule out any infections because it says they could be that they have a urine infection... Anyway the vet told us it was down to stress (visitors) that had caused it.... So if u say u have had more people over than usual then its most likely to be that... He was saying that cats get very stressed easily with any sort of change in the house...

We have cream carpets throughout and she wee'd in the living room so last week we was laying down all new wooden flooring because we couldn't get rid of the smell

The vet did recommend this though which apparently calms cats..x

Hi, I have two female cats, I don't have a litter tray coz I don't see the point when they go out, and stay out over night and the only time we had toilet troubles was when we got a dog, and when we moved house, so it could very well be stress related.

my cat pooped in the bath grrrrrrrr

I agree with all of the above. I'm a veterinary nurse and it's also very common for cats to toilet in inappropriate places once a new baby is born (sometimes in the baby's bed). If your cats are prone to getting stressed I would definitely invest in lots of Feliway and maybe Valerian in their food.

Please do not say that lol.. I would be furious if our cat did that... x

Hhmm glad this has come up. I have a 2 year old momma cat and 2 of her boys who are just over 8 months old now. I hadnt realised that a baby joining the household could affect them so badly. Im really hoping they will be ok.

Momma cat has been done, but I've been waiting til the boys grew a little more as they are still quite small. Although yesterday I noticed one of them having um a "happy time" in their bed  lol.

I've not had the wee one yet so I'm pretty scared :| maybe hopefully if I introduce them to each other kind of slowly and get them both sniped as well it wont be much of a problem. I love my wee cats so much and really dont want to have to give them away when bubs comes along :( xxx

Just a tip clean up were they peed/pooed with warm water and bio washing liquid in it, this kills the enzymes init and they are less likely to pee/poo in same place again x
