What age can you go up to the next size car seat cause my not so little man barely fits into his without looking squished now :(

Different car seats go by weight mostly and a few by age. How old is he now flame cos my son went in a fron facing seat at 5 months cos he was too massive for the group 0+ seat.

He is 4 months and a few days, although by weeks nearly 18 weeks. His last weigh in beginning of last week was 17lb 5oz, so he isnt a small lad for his age apparently.

next size is 20Lbs.D is squashed in his i am hoping he has reached the magic number this week

For a front facing seat they recommend that your baby weighs 20lb and is 9 months old...

As long as your babies head is not over the top of the seat then they can carry on in the first size ... it doesn't matter if their legs go over the edge.

I was really worried about Grace because she is really long and seemed too big for her car seat, but the Fire Brigade offers a service where make sure that your car seat fits your car okay and that the seat is the right size. I took Grace and car and car seat to an open day and they were fab, really put my mind at rest.
if in doubt, pop along to your fire station

I had to move Nathan up to a front facing at around 6 months when he weighed about 20lbs. I just couldn't get him in the rear facing on no longer. His feet were about 6 inches over the bottom and I couldn't get his straps to fasten even on the biggest setting. Its wasn't a small car seat either, he's just really long.

Was looking at these the other day as eefie is squashed and if he has anything like a coat or cardi on I cant fasten his buckles. The woman in mothercare told me he cant go in front facing until he's 9 months. I thought it was 20lb OR 9 months. He's over 23lb so I really need to get him a new seat pretty soon but they're confusing the hell outta me!

I wanted a front facing one as he's so nosey and would love it but mothercare said to get him a seat for 20lb+ which is rear facing that you can turn forward?! :? :? :?

Clarification appreciated!

I have done quite a lot of research on it - have used the which magazine site and all the experts say that rear facing are the safest seats and babies should be kept in them until atleast 20lbs and 9 months - it has got to be both and not one or the other

Think I'm going to go for the britax first class SI. Looks really comfy and has decent reviews :)

Thomas went in his front facing at last week, he is 21 pounds and looked awful in his rear facing, he hunched forward etc. I spoke to his hv and she said he could go in a front facing as he is over 20 pounds, I am pretty confident it is not both nine months and 20 pounds otherwise my hv wouldn't have let me do it! We are in the maxi cosi tobi as it is award winning, he looks like the king of the castle!!!

I'm in the middle of deciding what one to get at the moment. My HV also said (and I read it in my AA book yesterday) you should go by weight and not age as all babys are different.
Dan is 9 months and is only 19lbs, when compared to other babies, yes that is a difference!
I hate all theses conflicting views, I wish the 'experts' could all get together and make up their minds!

If you buy from mothercare do they fit them? Going to get one this afternoon as he's 6 weeks off 9 months and is way over 20lb!

We bought the Britax Firstclass car seat which goes rear and forward facing from Kiddicare

As Ellie was too squashed in the Mamas and Papas car seat while wearing coats and was nowhere near the weight or age for going forward facing. We have been very pleased with it and we ended up keeping her rear-facing until she was 1yr old.

I would highly recommend it.

I got that one too. Mothercare were actually very helpful but were recommending rear facing until he's at least 9 months however the seat wont fit snug rear facing and she looked at the one I have in and said mine isn't fitted snug either. Apparantly I'm going to struggle to find ANY rear facing seat to fit it snug so Ive put him forward facing and the seat doesnt budge an inch :)

Thea went in her forward facing seat at 10 months old but she wasnt 20lbs (shes only just over that now!) She simply didnt fit in her baby seat anymore. Her head was over the top of the seat, it just wasnt safe anymore.
I bought my car seat in England and when i went to get it the woman in mothercare said that Thea would be fine in the seat because she had been holding her head up and sitting unaided since she was younger than 4 months old.
