I'm just wondering if any mummies can help.

My little boy is currently in a maxi cosi cabriofix. I've never been keen on this car seat as he has never fitted in it quite right or looked comfortable.

He's now nearly 6 and a half months old and his feet and very nearly hanging off the end of his car seat. His shoulders are also very squashed in and I can't seem to move the head hugger higher up. His top half looks too big and his legs are getting too long basically!

Now I've done a Google search and it says the headhugegr can be removed when they can independently hold themselves up for more than 15 minutes, well he can't do this. Also, I don't like the fact that there will be no padding round his head.

Do I hold out for a few more months and get some more use out of it, or do we consider investing in a new car seat?

This one is convenient because if I'm just nipping into tesco I can clip it on top of the pushchair although this isn't a big issue.

If I did consider getting a new one, what would you recommend? This will be fitted in my OHs Land Rover but will eventually go in my fiesta. I'd preferably like rear facing with the option to turn him forward facing. My car, the fiesta, doesn't have isofix but the Land Rover does. :wall2:

Maybe take it to mothercare or somewhere like that and get them to look at your son in it and see what they advise. If you do decide to get another car seat we've just bought a joie stages as our second car seat got my husbands car. It rear faces from birth with insert until 4 but then forward faves until 7 for £150 I think it will be good value ( it belts in rather than isofix but they showed. Me in mothercare how sturdy it is with the belt and I'm happy he'll be perfectly safe in it).

There's a really good Facebook group called car seat advice for mummies and daddies - maybe post your question on there, they're bound to have someone who can help :)

Iv got the cabrio and u can take the foam out the bottom and keep the head hugger. Gives you more room in the seat. X

I had a baby on the 98th centile and got rid of the foam and head hugger after 6 weeks. The legs hanging over the end aren't an issue, only his head hanging over the top which shouldn't happen for a while yet. It's the safest car seat for them to be in so keep it as long as you possibly can.

Thanks for the advice ladies.

I joined the group on Facebook and it seems that I should just remove the head hugger and he will be fine. Which is good as then we've got a bit longer to save up for a new car seat. I'm sure baby will let me know when he gets too uncomfortable in it.
