I assume you dont work with old people then or have any understanding that quite a lot of them arent quite with it

Surely thats not up to the general public to decide. If shes stealing on purpose, she needs to be stopped - its only fair. If shes "not with it" then surely she needs help or she could be dangerous to herself or others.

The point is though, she was right to tell someone, not only for the companys sake, but the ladies too.

No, you are quite right. Its not up for me, you or anyone else here but what Tesco should have done and maybe they have, was to get her details and have them passed on to Social Services. They maybe didnt want to take it as far as a criminal conviction but someone in authority should know.

Not saying everyone should go on a bacon stealing spree but as a bit of a socialist I'm siding with the common people on this one

pigs everwhere are running for cover as bacon theft sweeps the nation.

:rotfl: :rotfl:

I wouldn't have said anything whether she was 18 or 80 because, without knowing her circumstances I couldn't know how desperate she was / how many hungry mouths she had to feed at home.....and Tesco won't miss a few packs of bacon, some of which they'll inevitably end up throwing away anyway.

Its a bit like robin hood! Poor old lady steals from big rich tesco.

get her details and have them passed on to Social Services
Exactly and someone can talk to her and make sure shes ok but she could easily just be a normal lady who uses the "im an innocent old lady card" every now and again.

Interesting, because as a socialist I would tell. It's consumers who cover the cost of theft, ie the 'common people'. Why should the many pay for the few? Of course we don't know anyone's situation......she could have been an eccentric cat lady with a million in the bank!

Now I feel awful for telling :(

Don't you dare! You did the right thing, Theft is theft. Why does one ole lady need 4 packs of bacon!?

I told on an old lady once too, she was smelly and stuff so maybe homeless, but she'd gone round the shop, bought some things, gone back in and was walking round with a shop carrier bag and put extra stuff in it so of course nobody would think to check her. I felt awful but I know it was the right thing to do. Crime is crime at the end of the day.
