Can you request an induction?

As the title says really. I've got another growth scan a week today and we are preparing for a big baby judging by the last scan. I'm just wondering if i could actually ask to be induced at say 38/39 weeks instead of going full term as i am so scared of not being able to cope with the birth if the baby is very big (cos of the severe fatigue i get with my Multiple Sclerosis). Or do you have to be offered one? I just worry that the consultants i have seen don't really understand my illness and therefore look at me and think i look well and so can cope as any other "normal" girl would. xxx

No harm in asking hun especially with your circumstances xx

Didn't mummy2adam request one or at least get offered one with her l/o cause baby was big and she had spd? Worth asking anyway :) xx

Inductions make labour really painful, its worth looking up the pros and cons before going down that route x

If its what you want you can always ask if they say no im sure the doctor will explain why xx

I have a growth scan next week too :) It's worth asking someone, maybe ask your MS nurse? (not sure how much experiance she has with birthing tho?)

Thanks girls. I find it so hard speaking to the consultants about it as i see a different one each time and find they really don't seem to understand MS. Like you say tho, no harm in asking. I will bring it up at my next appt.
Induction isn't the route that i would choose to go down if i could help it. I really want to have a natural pool birth with as few drugs as possible but i'm just looking at the different options should i feel that induction would be for the best given my circumstances. xxx

What day's your growth scan chick??

You can ask the doctor about the induction pro's and con's to be honest everyone is different i.e the pain so they may not be able to give you an opinion on that but they can tell you if it will make it easier with your MS or if they think natural would be better, I hate talking to consultants too so i know its hard, Hopefully you will get a nice consultant who will sit and have a good chat with you about it xx

You definitely need to get some advice but from my experience induction is VERY painful but then I haven't had a natural birth. I'd say an epidural works well lol especially if its a big baby! Good luck xx

No harm in asking babe.. Not all induction stories seem to be bad.. I.loves one sounds fantastic! Inducing may be easier for u than struggling with a big baby and your condition.
It's pot luck with consultants tbh I've seen so many and they've all had different views and outcomes for me when I was in hosp.. Hopefully you'll get an understanding one.. Or maybe request one who has dealt with mothers with ms before??

Yeah, i.loves birth story does sound great!! Just goes to show how different it is for everyone! I have asked them if there's one whos dealt with MS and they said that it's not something that any of them specialise in. Oh well, i will just have to see what this one has to say next week! It's pot luck as to whether or not u get a good one isn't it! xxx

It is! If they can't help u just ask to see another one the week after and keep going til you feel satisfied with their answers!

Dee do you have a consultant for your MS? any chance you could get him to write a letter to explain the fatigue and recommend you have the early induction?

Also it's worth checking what type of pessary your hospital uses for induction - ours uses Propess which appears to make the whole process much easier x
