The stench musta been horrendous!!! :puke:

I read about this this afternoon.......................something not right about the whole thing

bloody hell, that lodger must have kept the entire Oust empire going

Something similar happened last year in Nottingham, but the man had been dead for 18 months. The 'grandaughter' who wasnt really his grandaughter but a smackhead continued to claim his benefits and never told the police :x

omg thats disgusting!!!!

About 10 years ago I met a friend from the station who had been away for 3 months and accompanied him back to his flat, he went in the bedroom to unpack while I stuck the kettle on, and he ran back out immediately wretching. I went to see, and omg, the corner of his bedroom ceiling was black and green and swimming with maggots, and the stench was unbelievable. We called the police as we suspected what it was, and it was the man in the upstairs flat...he had been murdered and the blood and rotting corpse had seeped through the floorboards....he had been there about 4-5 months they reckoned.

Now if that can happen after only a few months I dread to think what wa sin that house :puke:

Hope the poor guy can rest in peace now

The 2 men (the dead guy) and the lodger (who lived with the dead guy for 10 years) where both in their 70's. The living guy put the fellas body under the settee and said that he forgot that he was there! How the fook can you forget about a dead body that your living with??? I know they said that he has mental health problems, but still, you dont just 'forget' about a dead body... the smells a 'dead' givaway! :shakehead:

The flats are in a block and the neighbours only recently complained about the smell.... :?

The whole communal corridor area has had to be repainted due to the stench. The lodger still lives in the flat now..minus the dead body obviously..and the flat has now been fumigated!

Reckon he'll be a bit lonely now!

oh bless him, I imagine he must have some serious problems, cant help feeling sorry for him

If this man was so mentally ill that he lived along side a rotting corpse for 10 years why had nobody from social services visited his premises during those 10 years to make sure his living conditions were satisfactory for a mentally ill person?

Our social services are disgusting. They should be ashamed of themselves :shakehead:

Apparently the neighbours had been complaining about the smell for a few years... the council attended the block of flats in 2002 and said that the smell was comin from the drains!

When council attended this particular flat this week... the lodger answered the door and said that they could search the flat... but not to lift the settee up (apparently he had hidden the body under the settee 10 years ago)... however, in the press it said that this guy had said that he had forgotten about the body being there.... he cant have forgotten about it being there surely if he told the council not to lift the settee up! Mental health problems or no mental health problems!!!

Its all very odd!

Its mental health services. Social services don't get involved unless somebody reports it and if they have mental health problems they may not necessarily have social problems so wont be referred.

I think in that guys case he may not have been seeing a mental health professional (who often dont visit you at home either) but it was council property so housing services should have been going in at the very least once a year to do gas checks etc. Any council tennant will have a visit at least once a year as they have to do safety checks on your boiler or mither you to paint your door or something so he's been let down badly by housing there.

You often get old folk slipping through the net who own their property as nobody might visit in years so unless the neighbours say something then they wont get any help. GP's are *supposed* to see people over 80 I think at least once a year but it just doesnt happen.
