LO is BFing well and happy to take bottles of expressed milk. However, I just can't keep up with the demand. For example I was at mums the other day and whilst I was out on the farm she woke up early for a feed which is not un common, anyway mum got well stressed as she just kept screaming.

So I was thinking of just having a couple of little cartons of formula at hers incase that happens again. Is this ok or will her digestive system not cope with it?

thanks :D

I used to do exactly that, but for some reason i'm not too keen on that anymore i dont know why.

I'll definately keep an eye on this thread though. It's good to know if its ok 2 use formula once in a while.

weve given the occasional bottle since birth as i had trouble with my nipples being agony and needing a break - worked fine for us, no nipple confusion, etc

Hiya hun,

I cant give too much advice where breastfeeding goes as i only managed a week. I would recommend getting the bottles and teats which are close to the boob and nipple as possible. Ollie did get nipple confusion unfortumately.

I am a breast feeder to my 5month old little boy and all he does is rely on the boob even when i try to give him the bottle he no i am there so wont have none of it but the good thing is is you could exspress every time while you feed your baby and give it to your mum to freese so then she always no there is your milk if needed.

Thanks guys.... I spoke to HV and although clueless about most things (not usual one who although he's a man has been brilliant esp about BFing  ) she did say that it should be ok but to just be aware that the taste is different for them and bowel movements might alter etc.

Claire - I got the TT closer to nature ones and I'm off to collect my Bumbo seat tonight which apparently helps with reflux. Hope all is ok with Ollie :D

BL - Charlie is ok with bottle but it's never me who gives it her :) I don't have enough hands to express and feed as I'm not v good at BFing (keep getting mastitis) so it's one hand on LOs head and the other under the boob :D

Hiya,

Also, and I hope this doesn't sound rude, but can your mum just sit in another room? Or you do? After all, babies cry and for lots of reasons other than feeding. What if she was sick or had bad wind or something? Would your mum still get stressed? I wouldn't advise you to change your baby's rountine and habits for someones elses convenience.

I see it as her doing me a favour by looking after my child so it's for my convenience really. I wouldn't want to put anyone out who was kind enough to volunteer to take her for a few hours, plus there's only a select few who you trust in the early months isn't there. Also the bigger picture is mum is going to look after her when I go back to work so I want it all to be as smooth as poss. THat link is exactly what I was thinking about though as the difference in the two types of milk must be huge for the infant gut to handle. :)
