Can anyone help? Xbox 360 question!

My kids just went to play on their Xbox and it has 2 flashing red lights where it should have 4 green (the circle ring)
i have gone on Xbox support and found it should be overheated and thats whats caused the problem, They only just tried to switch it on? Its not overheated so doesnt need to wait till its cooled down so I have no idea what it is and cant find anything else about it so was just kinda hoping someone on here would know something?!

Unplug it (including the power unit!), make sure the vents are unblocked, and wait an hour or so, before trying again. Or so says my bloke who's working for a major games retailer.

It might be a temporary problem caused by a powerspike, or it could mean that it's on its way out. If you see 3 red lights (or the "red ring of death") it's game over.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I just asked my OH about this coz he's an Xbox addict
The first Xbox he had, had 3 red rings and went completely dead, he said 2 red rings sounds like it's on it's way out. He said if you still have the receipt try and take it back and just say it's not working, or if not then keep it well ventilated (don't know exactly what he means by that!) and make sure it's laying completely flat, and basically don't play it for too long! Hope this helps!

Oh no it sounds like the 'red ring of death'. Every reason why we have steered well clear of the console.I hope the shop you bought it can swap it for you x

my OH this weeks xbox went with one red light, and wouldnt start, luckily he'd kept the reciept, it was only a week away from the year garatee running out!) when he took it back to the shop, they said it now had 4 red lights!!. and they wanted to send it away (probably gone all over crimbo, as they said 6weeks plus!!) so we went mad lmao. Put our foot down, (and also said we had an 8 year old son, who will be without an xbox all over crimbo )
Eventually they gave us a brand new xbox OH is a happy bunny.

Wow fab result!!!!! I think you have to put your foot down in these flippin stores. Did you know once something has been sent away for repair it invalidates your guarantee. Never let them take the thing off you. always get a new replacement.

btw we have the old xbox too and thats fine x

Doesnt look good does it!? I will try unplugging it all and leaving it, then if still not working I will try and find the reciept! I know I have it somewhere! I got it about this time last year so hopefully it will still be under warrenty!
My kids are gutted! Im gutted as I just bought them a whole load of bloody games for it
They had the nornal xbox and that broke on them last year before xmas too! Thats why we got them the 360! Didnt want to pay the amount they wanted for the ps3 as the kids are only 8-9 but Iwish I would have now!

Hubby got the red ring of death last week so we had to go buy him another one this week as it was just out of warranty

Don't just chuck it when it's broken, though, you can still try and trade them in. Gamestation do trade-ins and have a repair centre, so you might be able to still get a little bit for it.

OMG do you think they are programmed to break just before xmas?!?! Thats 3 of us who said theirs have broke just before xmas!

Hi 2 red rings is uaually general hardware problems microsoft quote about £65 to fix it

If it goes to 3 red light microsoft have extended the guarantees to 3 years as it is a known problem by microsoft and they will fix it for free (mine has just gone AGAIN)

If it does go to 3 red lights let us know and i will tell you how to get it repaired its easy and totaly free (it is done by microsoft in germany)

my OH fixed xboxs. if you still have your warrenty you can get it fixed my microsoft or you can fix it yourself ( my OH can tell you how).
2 red lights means its over heating and 3 red lights means the 'ring or death'. there is loads of info on the internet on how too fix the 2 red lights problem too.

I read on that website that it was overheating but I cant see why as its not been on at all today and was last on about 6pm yesterday?!
I also looked how to fix it myself so will give it a go later! Nothing to lose right?!

do you have all the stuff that you need to fix it with: washers,blots,screws etc. you can get the kit from ebay. if you use an standard sreawdriver to open the xbox you can/will brake the case.
