Hi..

Does anybody know what I'm entitled to and if I'm entitled to housing benefit?

I live with my partner and my little girl and we currently rent.. I work full time on minimum wage.. My partner doesn't work due to a heart condition.. Because me and partner now live together he basically lost all his money, income support etc.. The only thing he gets is disability but this is next to nothing.. They told us we are not entitled to anything because I earn and can support my OH.. Not sure if this is true?? I see other couples where one works and the other doesn't and they get HB..

Thanks x

Google benefits calculator Hun I think you will be entitled to something, also have you looked up working tax credits.

Yes you should be entitled to some help with your rent and working family tax credit, check with the benefit calculator and get sent off asap because the rent etc can take ages to go through but they will back date it from the date you applied. https://www.gov.uk/benefits-adviser

When i went up to 12000 pa i werent entitled to anything as my rent was half my wages so was able to get by. could always pop in your council x

Disability isnt counted as income as far as i know as its meant to pay for adaptations and transport not as an income, I know my OH works 40 hours on just over minimum wage i think we come out with about 14,000 and we get rent rebate reduced council tax and working family tax, i dont work and we have one child. Defiantly apply for them and let them turn you down dont assume your not entitled.

Thanks everyone.. I'll use the calculator and see what that says :) x

It says we're not entitled to housing benefit but it came out with twice more tax credits than what we are getting now so I don't understand it.. I think I'll just fill in a form and see what it comes back with..

I get 400 tax credits so in total a month we get £1200 inc my wage.. We pay £450 rent and £110 council tax a month.. I'm not complaining as I'm greatful that we get help with tax credits but I always see people claiming HB when there's only one earner so thought we could..x

i would apply for your rent and council tax anyway let them say no we are one income and get £88 a week towards our £450 a month rent. or speak to citizens advice there is one at our local sure start every week and u don't need an appointment so see if there at urs too and get oh to walk up when its on xx
