Hi Ladies?

Do any of you have any experience of this awful viral infection? We are on Day 7, and I'm exhausted never mind my poor boy! We've really been through the mill with it having to get transferred from the out of hours GP to the sick kids hospital by ambulance with blue lights and sirens because his oxygen levels took a dip. He's refusing milk and I would say just managing to keep some level of hydration.

Please say there's light at the end of the tunnel soon?

Hi love

It is an awful situ. We were admitted to hospital last Christmas with a very bad bout and spent a week on Oxygen.

We have had it since but managed to catch it before it resulted in another admission. I asked for a Salbutamol home neb, fenopaed, paracetamol, and antibiotics (amox) to combat it at once. We did manage to catch it in time, but all in all Id say 2-3 weeks J was ill each time. I think 3 weeks including the hospital admission and recovery but 2 weeks when he caught it and stayed at home.

I dont understand why they have discharged you if he is still refusing food/liquid? We werent allowed home until J could sustain 4h off oxygen and was giving reg dirty nappies and wet ones. Something as scary as that Id rather he stayed in imo.

Does he like fruit? Towards the end of J getting better he ate alot of grapes, which could give him a runny nappy but it perked him up with the sugar and liquid.

Hi, my little boy had it last year but it never really got that bad, I noticed his breathing sounded strange and got sent to out of hours gp. They prescribed soluble steroids, antibiotics and an inhaler which seemed to do the trick and after a couple of days using that it cleared up of its own accord.

Hope your little one gets better soon

My lo had this while on holiday in Cyprus. Spiked a temp and breathing was awful. All she wanted tondo was sleep. She was given antibiotics and she was over it within a week or 2 x

My son has just got over it, he was born at 24 weeks so was on oxygen anyway but spent a night in intensive care requiring a lot more oxygen and came home in more than he's ever had before. I'm sure you've tried but we were feeding little and often. He slept a lot but literally any time he woke up I offered milk, sometimes he'd only take about 10ml but it was better than nothing.
I hope your little one feels better soon.xx

Thanks ladies, how scary J_Anne but what a little fighter you have!

We are managing to get half his usual feeds in him but sometimes that's only by using syringes to give him 5ml at a time. I'll try fruit Ive offered all his favourite foods but he keeps pushing it away. He perked up a bit yesterday but today his breathing is as nosey as ever. Bless him he's trying to play but just constantly exhausted.

We were due to go on holiday yesterday and had to cancel because the doctor advised against him flying, which I was glad of because I didn't really want to be taking him away with him being poorly and risking dehydration in the height. It must have been scary dealing with that while away Mrs woody.

We've been offered no antibiotics or inhalers or any medication really just been told he needs to ride it out and let his body fight it on its own.

These babies don't half know how to keep you on your toes.

During hospital he needed the oxygen but was primarily best supportive care.

Second time I asked for inhalers as I didnt want to put him through hospital again and luckily it helped.
