THIS IS A VERY OLD THREAD I HAVE BUMPED BECAUSE HIS NEXT APPOINTMENT IS NEXT WEEK!

Brody has an appointment later cos when he was little he had one ball bigger than the other
One got swollen, apparently it's quite common as the tubes the testicles drop down from don't always close properly, and extra fluid can build up.
I really hope they tell me it's all OK now otherwise he might need a little operation to close the tube :?

Has anyone else heard of this?

Sorry I haven't hun. I know there are lots of checks they get down there.

Good luck and I hope things are all okie and straight forward xxx

my brother had this when he was a baby! this is quite weird, my mum told me about this last night (dont no how the convo came up lol) apparently he had it really bad, was always having to go to the hospital about it because it was so sore. it wasnt just one ball though, it was both :?
it cleared up when he was about 5, they kept saying they would operate but never did, my mum thinks that if it had happened nowadays he would have been operated on. my brother is 22 now so it was quite a long time ago he had this!
i havent helped much, soz! lol just thought it was weird that i was talking about this last night!
hope everything goes ok and Brody is ok now
hayley xx

Hiya everyone
Thanks for all your wishes!

Firstly, I was really surprised at how goods the hospital was..I had to go to Birmingham Childrens Hospital which is in the city centre.
I was worried I'd get lost as I haven't been that way for ages, then I was worried I wouldn't be able to park, then I was thinking I'd be waiting hours to get seen....
Anyway I found it straight away as it was really well signposted, I parked by the front door, and he got seen right at his appointment time.

The outcome was, it's got a little better, but it's still there, and I have to go back in 18months(!) and THEN if it's still not completely gone he may need a little operation!

I'm pretty pleased with the result, as you start really worrying in situations like this.

Thanks everyone

My son had this - I first noticed it when he was a couple of months old. I could see fluid through the skin of one of his balls, and the fluid was making it bigger than the other one. The amount seemed to stay the same, but after seeing the doctor a couple of times, he referred him to the hospital. He had a general anaesthetic and a little operation to drain the fluid away. After that, everything was fine. Hope this helps. I'm sure everything will be fine with Brody :)

Ohhh that does help Laura...I might have to quiz you if it doesn't go away on it's own. General anaesthetic sounds scary though, not matter how little the operation. :?

I have heard of inguinal hernia, which is where the intestines come down into the little sac that should hold the testicle. The operation needed is not a huge one, and sometimes a little boy can develop a hernia on the other side later.

I don't think it's anything to worry hugely about if you deal with it in time, urchin - just that the little intestine could become strangulated in that small space if left there and that's where problems can start.

Hiya thanks, It's apparantly not a hernia, although I do have to be vigilant in looking for one as there is a small possibility it may become one, or it is one and they have got it wrong.

His one ball is just a little bit softer than the other one. If I didn't know about it I would never notice it now.

Well that's come around quick!!

His appointment is on Friday 25th Jan at 4pm. I think he'll need the op, its still a teeny bit bigger :?

aaarw hope everythin goes ok Urchin, Im sure little man will be fine

aw hope it goes ok mate

oran has this, his balls were massive at birth and they said it was the fluid and the tube not closing, the right is quite big but the left bigger, over the last month they have shrunk but the left is still obviously bigger. We dont have to go back till he is 2 though so hoping its cleared but then. If Broody has the op you will have to let me know how it goes! Good luck, hope he dont need it xx

gosh i didnt even kno little boys had balls!

good luck for your app (and the op if its needed) brody
