So I'm 33 weeks, and baby is lying breech.I have an appointment in 4 weeks time at the hospital, and if he/she is still breech, they will think about trying to turn manually. The thing is,in a couple of my pregnancy manuals it said they usually try to turn them at 32 weeks or so.And there's only a 50-60% chance of success.Has anyone else had to have this done?

Basically,I may have to get sectioned, and if i do,it's better to get used to the idea about now.I don't really know how I feel about it,I really wasn't thinking past vaginal birth, and that's scary enough.I just wondered if anyone had had a c-section,what it was like, and other things.Like how long did it take you to wake up afterwards?Who held your baby whilst you were being stitched up again? How long did it take you to recover?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.I'm really quite nervous about this.

My son was breech until about 34 weeks I think, he turned round on his own. Try crawling round on your hands and knees, leaning on your elbows with your bum in the air, and bouncing on a birthing/excercise ball.

I was told that they wouldn't try to turn him until about 37 weeks because there's too much chance they'll turn breech again if they turn them earlier.

If baby stays breech and is in a 'good' breech position, I think you can attempt a vaginal delivery if you want, but you may prefer to choose to have a caesarian. I've not had one so can't really advise on that but I'm pretty sure you don't usually need a general anesthetic, so you can be concious the whole time and would be able to see baby as soon as s/he's born.

Good luck, I hope your baby behaves him/herself and turns round!

don't be worried about a csection - i had a vagial birth with my 1st (3rd degree tear and v. painful - sorry) with my 2nd - he wansn't even breach he was oblique( think that was it - basically his back was across the exit piont) so i had a section - it was wonderful - yeah:D - so much so that i insisted on csection for 3rd and now also for my 4th i will have an elected section. For me it was great - you can even keep your makeup on as there is no pushing/panting etc and more importantly i was better able to care for my lo after a section than after a normal deliver with a 3rd degree. - loved it

Well, that's reassuring :) Thanks,I'll definitly try the excersise ball/hands and knees thing

C section isn't as bad as you think. I think the main thing is the disappointment of not giving birth naturally but you soon get past that. If you have a planned one it is meant to be a million times better as well. I had an emergency one and at the time I felt robbed but I would do it all again in a heart beat! The recovery process can be long but so can it be from a natural with tears. My husband held my son and went off with him and the midwife to get him weighed cleaned up and dressed whilst they stitched me up. You are awake for the c section as well so you can see your baby as soon as it's born.

Oh good,i wanted my boyfriend to be able to hold our baby =] Thanks :)

Hi

I hated my first section beacuse i gotot 9 and a hlaf cm and felt like i let myself down, im having my second section in a few hours and am so nervous and excited , the part that sucks is the recovery .

Just had a thought - someone told me acupuncture is supposed to help turn breech babies, not sure how much truth there is in it but may be worth a try?
