This is probably a really stupid question but... I really want to breastfeed, I've noticed a few people having leaks since quite a while ago but I've had nothing. Is this normal? I'm scared incase I don't make any at all!! I think i might have asked before but what happens if your milk doesn't come in straight away after baby is born? Obviously baby needs to be fed formula?? But will this make breastfeeding more difficult after!?

And... Where does the milk actually come from? I keep inspecting my nipples to try see but there is no obvious hole if u get me?! Or does it come from lots of holes? I'm gonna have a chat to midwife thurs but wanted to get some info first so she doesn't think I'm completely incapable!

Sorry if I've not made much sense!

it doesnt make a difference if you leak before hand or not hun :)

Your worries and concerns are completely justified hun and not stupid at all.

With a straight forward labour each stage produces different sets of hormones which trigger different reactions in your body - one of them being the simulation of your milk ducts so it's a natural flow of things if you see what I mean.

As for a C section - I am not sure? I do know a few of the ladies on here have Breastfed after a Section tho so it is possible!

I know that skin to skin after birth should be encourrage as spending time that way will also help with milk production. It's a natural reaction to your baby.

There are no obvious holes in your nipples - but they are there lots of tiny ones- I can't really explain that to you but once you start to leak you will see what I mean.

Don't worry about not leaking yet - neither have I - it does not mean you will not be able to breastfeed. Infact I was reading something the other day that said less than 1 in a thousand of women are unable to brestfeed - most faliures are due to a lack of support for the mother in the first and very important weeks! xx

miss answer was so much better than mine lol can you tell ive never breastfed??

haha :hugs:

I am just one of them annoying people that need to understand stuff and read loads! My answers are always long winded :(

Aww now I feel like a know it all cow haha You say the nicest things :bunny:

Mine aren't leaking and they didn't leak with my first either until after I had her and I breastfed for about 6 months with her. Everyone is different, I wouldn't worry to much about it just now. The key is to stay relaxed and don't get stressed out about it. well thats what i think. It takes some time to get the hang off breastfeeding but with the right support etc you will be fine. :) oh and get some cabbage, savoy cabbage i think is was to put on your boobs, it works great! lol. i was laughing when my midwife told me to get some but it does work, or it did for me.

I had a section and successfully breastfed and still am (Isla is 25 weeks old). I was injected with something straight after the "birth" so my body knew I'd had her. Also baby's belly can only hold 5ml. So the colostrum (sp) is enough for baby until your milk comes in.

I really want to breast feed to and i'm glad i'm not leaking yet! lol. I know what you mean though Heidi :).

I've bought a really good breast feeding book, it's in my bedroom at the moment so i'll get it later and tell you what it's called (when my childminded boy goes home). It's written really well in language I can understand and also has pics and diagrams. x

Ahh thanks everyone! I think I just really wanna have a good go at it and like to know the in's and out's of everything. A few people have said they bought some formula just incase it doesn't work? So u think this is a good idea? Xxx

I've had no leaks either, no sign at all...and like you in the back of my mind I wonder 'does this mean I'll have a problem producing milk?' but whenever I've mentioned it to people they say not to worry, milk doesn't always come in before the birth. I've bought a steriliser and some bottles but refuse to buy formula unless I absolutely have to! The steriliser and bottles are needed anyway for expressing...but buying the formula now would kind of feel like admitting defeat before I've even tried, lol. I know this might caause me problems at 3am one morning, lol, but that's just me!! xx

Yeah ive bought a sterilser and bottles too in a set along with a breast pump, purely for use after expressing. I'm not gonna buy any formula because like u said its like admitting defeat. I really am determind to give BF my best shot and when it gets tough dont wanna know its in the cupboard and give in straight away!

Thanks

xxxx

We've bought 1 tin of formula, purely as a last resort if little man really can't feed or my milk doesn't kick in quick enough. x
