Hi

My milk came in yesterday and it seems as if she wants it all the time!! im feedimg on demand, I don't mind her wanting it so much, but how long is it before they start to get into abit of a rountine? I don't want to give up as im really enjoying it I love hearing her sounding so happy to be having my milk when shes drinking it, gives me alot of satifaction knowing my baby is getting the best :D

Also is it normal to have sharp pains in the boobs? its not all the time mainly when shes fed or shes about too.

lol anyone elses boobs leak when you hear your baby cry? lol its well weird

I still leak when Thea cries lol

Your LO will settle into a routine soon. I feed on demand too and Thea now feeds around every 3 hours.

When your milk first comes in its quiet normal for your boobs to hurt hun. After a while it ease off after a few days, if it doesnt then you should check that your baby is latching on correctly.

Thanks for that :D

I think shes latched on ok, I feel my womb contract when she feeds, which the midwife said is a good sign shes on good, but if it doesnt go away ill ask the midwife again :D

Oh and I love Thea's tigger outfit there just great arnt they :D :cheer:

I know what you mean hun, my boobs get really sharp pains in them when Elora's due for a feed. I think this is caused by the sudden rush of milk in your boobs ready for baby to feed. Im guessing the sharp pains are totaly normal :D

tasha the sharp pain is your let down reflex. When baby starts to suckle it causes this. it take abour 20 seconds for the milk to be ''let down' and in some women this is quite painful. HOWEVER you have to be sure its only when you have put baby to your breast that you get the pain and not at any other time. If you are gettingthe pain inbetween feeds it could be thrush in youor milk ducts and this has to be treated ASAP.

My boobs leak and tingle when Rachael is ready for a feed.

As for the settling down bit. That will happen. But right now you need to respond to your baby as she is telling you how much and how often she wants food. Feed her when she wants and for how ever long she wants on each breast.
She should be settled inbetween feeds but she could be feeding every hour a this stage so don't worry about that. Just go with it.
In about 5 days ir so shewill settle down and sleep longer in betweeen feeds giving you a break.
Make sure you eat and drink plenty and rest plenty too. Don;t do too much.
ou're doing great - im really pleased you're enjoying baby. I love breastfeeding and its the thing i look forward to and miss most about motherhood. :)

I had my LO a month ago and was having the womb thing as you said, its just your uterus going back to normal :)

my LO when she started first of all she wasnt very hungry ie she would go past the four hour mark for her next feed which got me worried and if I tried waking her she was having none of it, then she started wanting one every few hours and then one day she constantly fed for three hours! (not j/k!) but now she has settled, she will want a feed about every 2-3 hours and when she does she feeds for about an hour ie ten minutes on then off then back on (yes Im feeding on demand too though once or twice I have had to give her formula but I think she has only had about 5-6 bottles in all) but sometimes I get worried that she isnt getting enough and that she is going to lose weight but since she was born she has put on 2lb 1oz and the HV is very happy with her progress

Good luck with it :)

Wow thank you for the advice :D

I love breastfeeding it gives me so much satisfaction, I am going to keep feeding on demand as this is what she wants, but a lot of the time now when she feeds she's sick pretty much straight away, she realy gulps the milk down, after shes been sick she then goes back on for more. Is it normal for her to do that?

Also how can I keep her awake, alot of the time she has about 7 or 8 sucks and falls asleep  So I move her off me and then wakes up in a panick because ive moved her.

Budge the pains are when she sucks so its proberly normal like you said, I have the midwife out next week so I will ask her then. :D

Thanks again

you could try keeping her awake by stroking her feet or back

My LO isnt sick very often though the last few days she hasnt seemed to be very well :( but she is a very windy baby

hope you manage to keep on with the BF :cheer:

my sister had warned me that BF was painful and hard but I found it really easy, apart from a case of very sore nipples, one of them was cut and bleeding :( but after a bit of vaseline I kept on and Im still doing it!

I can't really add anything because its already been said. I'd just like to say how proud I am of all you girls though for your mature attiduates and BF'ing.
If you enjoy it carry on for as long as you want. The doctors say your baby can still recieve benfits upto 2 years of age so don't be pressured to stop at 6 months if you don't want too.
I really enjoyed BF my daughter and am looking forward to doing it with this new arrival as well.

Yes I think its great too that so many women are starting to breastfeed again, its a wonderfull feeling feeding your baby :D

I have tryed the stroking, lol she just grunts and goes back to sleep

Olivia is quite windy, maybe shes sick becuase she gulps it down too quick  but then how do I stop her doing that?

gulping down a lot of air could be the problem as the wind has to come up and maybe with it a lot of her food so then she wants more!
My LO gulps a bit too (very eager to get on nipple and when she does she doesnt want it!) and then gets problems with her wind building up and then she is straining to poo or fart (sorry if TMI)

has your other nipple started leaking yet when you feed from the other? lol that can be a pain sometimes, I have to shout to the OH to get me a breast pad (if I havent long come out of bath or something and judt have my dressing gown on!)

hmm there isnt really a lot I dont think that you can do to stop them going to sleep when they want to, if they want food they will soon wake up and tell you!

I feel like have been doing this years and its only been just over a month!

merry christmas
xxx

Everything I would have advised has been covered by the girls already.

Hopefully things will settle down for you soon hun :).

Hi Tasha an congrats on your LO!! The breastfeeding soon settles down and baby gets into their own routine. My Leorah goes longer between feeds in the morning and then cluster feeds during the evening now. I also have a quite a painful letdown and its really wierd as I soemtimes get it when I talk about Leorah

yes my other nipple leaks when im feeding and they both leak when I think about her or I hear her crying

Shes seemed to keep her food down a lot better over the past two days as she isnt taking in much air, so maybe it was just because she was windy :D

My let down reflex hurts too :(
