hi ladies,

ive just started my hungry little lady on some baby rice and she loves it!!

shes having a bottle of about 7-8oz at 9am, food at noon, bottle at 1pm, bottle at 5pm, then bed-time bottle at 9-9.30pm

when should i increase her food to more than once a day or increase the ammount she is having, shes munchin her way though 3 teaspoon fulls at the mo  she takes after her daddy for being a hungry baby but me of piling weight on, lol

should i offer her water with her rice / food at dinner time?

im really enjoying the baby rice but because shes got the hang of swallowing it really well wondered when to move onto something else, with a little bit more taste,

shes got a tommee tippee 4month + beaker thingy but cant grasp holding it or drinking out of it, so im giving her a bottle with water in at the mo, but im trying to persevere with the tippie cup, i dont want her to be still having a bottle to drink out of when shes big, lol

thanks for your help :)

i started weaning my lo when he was about 4 and a half months old and i just stuck to baby rice and baby porridge at breakfast and-or at supper time. he didnt really get the hang of it at first! i only started him with a few spoons at a time as i was aware that under 6 months (reccomended weaning guidelines lol) hus digestive system was still immature. its only now that hes 6 months that hes on 3 meals a day. for the last month or so i gradually increased... for example id give him say half a jar or rice pudding which i thought was enough, but then he cried as it was finished and had more! i know when he is full as he clams his mouth shut! its so cute!!

i think your lo will let oyu knw when shes ready for more i guess each baby is so different from another..another hint is maybe when she drops a milk feed? im happy lettingmy lo have as much milk as he wants as i know its important for him more so than food at this point...he currently has 4 7oz bottles in 24, at some stages he was having about 6 or 7 bottles in 24 hours! a friend of mine started weanign at 5 months but her lo only took a few spoons at a time.

as for water i always offer him some with his food and during the day and generally he has about 2 or 3 oz in his trainer bottle, just ordered him a tommee tippee cup to try!

sorry to ramble lol! sure the other mummies will have good advice too!!!

I've just started weaning charley at 5 months and I've put him straight onto 3 meals a day. He has...
7.30am 7oz bottle
8.30am porridge/muesli
10.30am 7oz bottle
12.00pm mashed fruit/fruit pot/mashed rusk in milk
1.30pm 7oz bottle
4.00pm 7oz bottle
5.00pm homemade pureed veg
6.30pm 7oz bedtime bottle
He sometimes still has 1-2 bottles during the night too!
He's a very hungry baby lol

I also give him baby juice with every meal. I introduced his beaker at 4 months and slowly he's getting the hang of it. He only has about 1-2oz's of water/juice a day though

My LO is 18 weeks, I started weaning at 15 weeks. The first week I just gave a couple of teaspoons of baby rice for breakfast then I moved on to baby porridge at breakfast and supper after a couple of days. At 16 weeks I gave a lunchtime meal as well, only the 'heinz dinners' which are powdered and u make them up with water. For the last week I have been giving a 100% fruit pot such as apple and banana for breakfast, half an ellas kitchen pouch for lunch and porridge for supper. The reason I give porridge for supper is coz I think its a bit thicker so would hopefully fill LO up more to have an easier night if im honest.
This is what our routine looks like now:
8.00am 6/7 oz bottle
10.00am fruit pot
12.00am 6/7oz bottle
2.00pm Half a pouch of food
3.00pm 6/7oz bottle
6.00pm Porridge and 6oz bottle

Sometimes he will need topping up in the night 1 or 2 Oz but this doesnt happen everynight and i dont think he needs it but some nights sucking on the bottle is the only thing that will get him back to sleep

next week going to introduce some water in a cup with meals :) and i might add a pudding to his lunch but he doesnt need it yet

Few, makes me feel much better knowin others are doing the same, hubby doesnt want us to move her onto 2meals a day yet but i know when shes giving me a hungry cry its what she wants, think baby rice in the mornin n lunch will be starting 2mo, bugga the hubbies ideas, lol

X

I offered more meals too, then when he was on 3 meals, I upped the portion sizes. I also offered water in a cup with every meal x

my lo loves the banana porridge you mix with milk/boiled water i do breakfast and dinner and going to introduce lunch gradually!!!

we had baby rice at 10am this morning, and then at 3pm she had 1/3 of a jar of baby cauliflower cheese, smelled like feet but she wolfed it down! :)

im looking forward to introducing some cerial or something for b'fast, been to see a wonderful childminder today and i think if i can get her on 3 meals before we go away in 3 weeks it will be easier for us and then she will be ready in a normal food routine by the time i go bk to work in june :-(

xxx

Just try and stick to similar foods for a couple of weeks incase anything upsets her!!

wow i got wrong off my health visitor for giving amy 3 meals a day lol at 4 months so they sed shes getting all her nutrients from milk alone i did cut her down and just give her the rice but up that from 2-3 sppons to 5-6 but i suppose mothers no best lol and health visitors arent there 24/7 lol if youve only just started her on it id stick with rice for now till but up it a bit see how she does with this for a couple of weeks then introdue some different kinds of food i think they say dont give the porrige till after 6 months wel thats what igot told

We have these cups for Ollie http://www.auravita.com/product/Tommee-Tippee-First-Cup.JACK11170.html and he manages to pick it up off his high chair tray and get it into his mouth, we just nudge it so he gets the water. The faces he pulls when he drinks water, you'd think we were poisoning him Lol but he does drink an ounce or two a day and chews on it as well.
We've not introduced weaning yet cos we struggle to get 25oz down him a day of formula as it is although he is still on the 50th centile so not worried about him...will give him a few more weeks before we start although he kept opening his mouth when I ate a yoghurt this morning and thought me eating noodles was hilarious at tea-time. His head control isnt great yet either so waiting for that to develop more too!
