Hi All,

Has anyone had a breast reduction and then had a baby and has been able to breast feed??

I am pregnant and had a BR almost 6 years ago. Everyone I speak to is giving me grief about saying I wont breast feed. but i dont ant to really explain why. Just wondered if anyone else had had this op and then successfully breast fed

Thxs

My best friend has had the p and sadly couldnt breastfeed because when they reduce the breast there taking all the tissue ut, fat and breast ducts are within that and there cutting them off from the nipple.

I guess only time will tell, i cant say you wont because im not a doctor.

i think its very rare to be able to bf if uv had a reduction because they usually moved the nipple as already mentioned? iv had an enlargement and so i can as the natural breast tissue is undisturbed, tho it is 'recommended' by the surgeon that i dont.

Someone else on here was told she couldn't, but then her milk did come in and she leaked so maybe worth a go?

That was me :wall: by then of course we were well established with bottle feeding and I was advised not to attempt to breastfeed - but my milk sprayed everywhere for about 4 weeks

It's one of the reasons I now have PND, as I would have breastfed if I could and Connie's had so many digestive problems that I am blaming myself for them. Please PLEASE if you want to try, try. If you can't, no matter, at least you tried

My friend had a breast reduction and was able to successfully breastfeed for about 6 months. I never heard before they cut the ducts off... they can't have with my friend she was fine and is onto baby number 2 and planning to breastfeed again this time round.

Should probably also add that I have been described as a "medical miracle" as my nipples were completely cut off and repositioned and I went down about 4 cup sizes so loads of fat and milk ducts were removed. It is EXTREMELY RARE to be able to breastfeed after a reduction but not impossible. Good luck

I wouldn't say its extremely rare TBH, there are thousands of women who do it there is even a site dedicated to it.

Maybe your case was rare cos your nipple was severed but not everyone has that.

I'm just repeating what the medical professionals told me, although I think we've already established that most of what they said was utter tripe.
