I defrosted some breastmilk yesterday that had been stored in the freezer for a few weeks and when I went to give it to Seren I noticed it smelt almost sour - not as bad as off cows milk but not pleasant either. I tasted it and it didn't taste great either so I threw it away :-( It had been frozen immediately after expressing and defrosted at the back of the fridge and I went to use it immediately after it had defrosted so it shouldn't have gone off. Any ideas? Xxx

This is the first time I've defrosted any for Seren. I vaguely remember having the same problem with DS but can't remember if it was all the time or what I did with my freezer stash then xxx

Aaron's always smelled a bit funny after freezing, but it was fine x

Spin yes it does sound like that. Gah what a pain! Xxx

I read something about excess lipase that said if you store in freezer bags with no air in, it tends to be ok.

I also read a suggestion that red wine is supposed to help ;-)

Quickly scald before cooling and freezing, just enough for it to bubble slightly at the sides, don't boil though ( as it can destroy antibodies etc), but a quick blast is enough to denature the lipase enzyme.
