Breast milk smells:(

Is it normal for off breastmilk to smell like vinegar? that's the best way I can explain it, but if i wash myself and change my pads the next morning I smell like vinegar it really knocks me sick and I am so concious about it.

Does anyone elses smell like this or does it sound like I could have a infection

I'm not sure tbh..
I remember my mum once saying how she was paranoid when she went to the gym, as when she got changed afterwards her bra smelt vinegary because of sweat..x

Yes the milk that has leaked on to your pads during the day has gone off in the heat , nothing to worry about you could change them during the day and see if that helps but I'm sure no-one around you can smell it honestly , I would describe it as a warm acidy smell sometimes it can even be a bit cheesey too ,lol . xx

Neither did I?! I have to wear breast pads almost all the time and although I leak a lot, I've never had this problem!

I read up on something last night after reading this thread, apparently there are things called lipase that break down enzymes in breast milk (or something along those lines) and excess lipase can result in off-smelling breast milk. Won't be a problem now unless the OP is still bf other LO. It's not harmful but won't taste very nice. Might be something to ask midwife about.

Sometimes when I woke up in the morning the breast pads smell awful.

I'm baffled by this. I am like an oven at night but my breast pads have never smelled bad in the morning.

I get that too!! It's disgusting smells like gone off milk but I'm def not leaking x

Ooh, maybe it's not heat then? Could it be a diet thing? Or just what's in the milk? It didn't smell when I expressed or anything, just when I woke in the morning x
