Hiya.

I've got the greatest intention to bf my baby but me being me I think I'd like to know the ins and outs of it all before hand and help me prepare.

So, I was wondering if anyone knows of any good books or has tips for me.

My friend was telling me earlier she thinks that part of her failure to establish bf'ing was because she was so unprepared and just assumed it would happen. I don't want to get to that point and my baby miss out.

I'm having a csection so my midwife has told me they will offer the services of the bf co-ordinator as soon as I've had her.

Any help or pointers much appreciated!

Hey, I don't know about in your area, but where I live they offer a breastfeeding class... Lasts 2hours and gives you the ins and outs... I found out about this at my 28week midwife appointment, so it's something you could enquire about.

Have a read of the threads in baby and toddler, and feeding/nutrition. They'll
Give you an idea of the things that most of us have found hard.

The main thing to be aware of is cluster feeding, at the beginning they can seem to feed almost constantly - this is to get your supply up and is completely normal!!! A lot of people assume at this point they are not making enough milk - that is a very very rare event.

Also day 3ish - when your milk comes
In (instead of colostrum) can be very difficult - we were up all night! Again - perfectly normal.

Xx

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(

Wss^. Come to baby and toddler, and right after you have your lo, ask us questions because one of us will have been through what you will go through. I would also reccomend watching videos of breastfeeding, or if you have a friend who bfs maybe she will help you out. Support groups are great too.

Cluster feeding was my biggest shock. I had taken a course and read books but had no idea my lo could eat for 8 hours straight! It would be good to be prepared for that. Also, not every mom feels engorged or leaks... I never did, but my supply is fine. Good luck! Xx

My NCT classes finish ith one on breast feeding, I'm hoping that gives me some kind of heads up but I'd like info too mso will be watching :)

Thanks girls. I never even thought of baby and toddler. I'll start going in there now too!!!

I really want to be able to give her the best start but I am absolutley clueless with this part of being a mummy. I pretty much think I can cope with everything else having been involved in my nephews lives but they were both bottle fed almost stratight away. Think I shall have a look on itunes and see if there are any books. Never thought of videos too!

Your all so helpful...thank you.

I was given a DVD by my midwife all about breastfeeding which looks quite helpful, but I'd say we're in a good place to ask lots of questions to the ladies on here who're going through and I bet there's some stuff on YouTube?!

I'll look at youtube too.

I emailed my mid wife and asked her to call me. I know that there is a breastfeeding co-ordinator in my area but after that I am not sure what.

Downloaded the book "What to expect when breast feeding....and what if you cant?" by Clare Byam-Cook. So far it looks really informative.

Just want to be as best prepared as possible.

That's so good to be prepared. We did an NCT class which included a 3 hour session on breast feeding which was great but also baby and toddler is great!

I would say if you can do an NCT course I'd highly recommend it. Found them really informative and also made some lovely friends on my area (didn't know anyone as we'd just moved when I fell pregnant

Just remember no question is silly so feel free to ask xx

Thanks beckyboo. There are no NCT classes in my area -- I looked. Maybe the midwife will get back to me with something. Im sure there is support available if you want it and ask for it. I would just be being naive if I didnt do my research. I think for so long its one of them myths I though would just happen naturally, that is until I am faced with it!

Hopefully the book will give me a good start. Its got great write ups.

Nearly finished the book girls.....think it's going to be really helpful. I'm going to read it before Daisy arrives to refresh my memory but it's all very practical stuff with lots of myths busted and facts. Who'd of thought I would enjoy a breast feeding book as my bed time reading! Ha! Xxx
