Hi ladies I just found this forum and wished I had earlier in my pregnancy
I am 37 weeks and 2 days and I am loving the info I have found so far. The previous forum I was I for months was horrible. But anyhow I am having an issue with the feelings of Braxton Hicks. Are they suppose to be painful?

I think towards the end they can get a little painful - well I've been having them and mine are painful sometimes!! Makes me worry If I will be able to handle the real thing lol.
I think it's normal but if at any point your not sure or if they get more frequent and more painful I would definitely call midwife just to be safe! Xxx

Thanks for the info. Yes lately they have been painful with period like cramps and sharp pain. It happens maybe 3 to 5 timed an hour. I will just see how it plays out in the next few hours. Thanks

Welcome ladykym  I'm 36+3 and a first time mum so certainly no expert - but I'm experiencing the same. My braxton hicks have really ramped up in the past week, I know when one is coming because I get a sudden dull ache in my lower back and abdomen (like a period pain) then my bump tightens and goes rock solid for about 20-30 seconds then eases off again. I'm sure it's not painful in comparison to labour contractions but certainly makes me need to stay very still and take a few deep breaths until it passes. Mine can come very frequently for 1 hour then disappear until a bit later in the day etc.
I think you only need to consider it a sign of labour if they are consistently coming at a set time e.g every 10 minutes for several hrs. But as always - call your midwife to put your mind at ease if it is making you worry.

Are you due to be a late August mummy? I'm sure kimmyRJ will be happy to add your details to the front page of the August mummies thread if you wanted - it's getting very exciting on their with babies being born this month! Or if you go overdue come and have a chat on September mummies thread :)

Xxx

Welcome to the forum lovely!

Like summer said feel free to join in the August or September mummies, it's helped me so much with my pregnancy being able to chat to these ladies that are due around the same time about anything and everything.

Not much help with the question as I'm also a first time mum xxxx

Thanks ladies. Yes I'm due Aug 27th but schedule for c section on the 20th. I'm just hoping he comes on his own before then.

Welcome! Anytime I've wondered if my braxton hicks were something more I've just gone in a hot bath, if they disappear then I know they aren't contractions. Hth :)

I'm currently overdue and my braxton hicks have been quite painful. The first time it happened they were regular at every 10 mins and sore so went to hospital. That was a month ago lol! Also every time I get a session of them they usually last a few hours, 1 min long and painful. This made me very confused for weeks and now I know it's normal for me. But as the rest of the girls have said if your worries give your midwife a ring x
