I know this is in the wrong place and I have posted in ask a mum but wondered if anyone in off topic could help:

Hello, I just wanted to ask any bottle feeding mummys out there for some help.

Unfortunately I am not producing enough milk for Thomas and am onto formula. We are using cow and gate premium powder. A couple of questions:

can you make up the formula and keep it in the fridge or do you just keep the boiled water in the fridge and mix it up as and when needed, or even worse do you have to boil the lettle and wait 30mins each time he wants feeding (i can't imagine this being the case as the water is far too hot!!!)

After feeding Thomas is throwing up a lot! He kind of projectile vomits, is this normal or is he not tolerating his milk? I am worried!! If it isn't one thing it's another!! He was settling really well last night after feeds but now he is not settling at all, is it because he throws some of it up? If so do I give him more!!??

Please help me!

Hiya

We make up all bottles at night for the next day and put them in the fridge you can only use them within 24 hours though so becarful. A lot of people on here do it differently from what i have read through but you need hot water to mix ther powder with it,

If he throws up after his bottle as long as he doesn't cry for more just leave him he might just be taking more than he can handle but i would maybe ask your HV just in case, Conal was the pukiest baby ever till about 5 weeks ago and now he is fine whereas Willow was never ever sick unless she was ill so he may just be a pukey baby

I make all Emilys bottles up once a day, i just put the water in the bottles and leave them on the side and add the milk when she needs feeding.

If you want to make the bottles with milk, id put them in the back of the fridge.

Id talk to your HV or MW about the projectile vomiting, is it actually going across the room or is he just throwing up forcefully if you know what i mean?

thanks, this is really helping!

He throws up a bit like a water fountain, it just spills out!

If you leave the water on the side and add the formula as and when you need it do you warm the bottles up?

if he was projectile voming it would come out with a force and shoot across the room, if this is the case then you really need to speak to a doctor, if not and you are worried still take him and put your mind at rest :D

Its personal choice to warm the bottles up, its just most baies prefer warm milk

hey missac,
sorry i dont have any advice about the formula making as we are still using the ready-made cartons, which we make up into bottle throughout the day, keep them in the fridge and heat them up when needed.

We had the same problem with Evie and the sickness. We were told by MW and HV to wind her after the first two ounces she takes ,and then every ounce after that. Make sure they bring up at least one burp or fart every time before you put the bottle back in their mouth. Also make sure they are winded at the very end of the feed.

I know it sounds like common sense but it really worked for us. we were tld it was because the milk mixes with the trapped air in their stomach and when they try to bring up even a litle burp without being properly winded it could result in the projectile vomit :? .
If it doesnt work id definately call your midwife or doctor.
good luck hun

I do the same as charlotte, just make bottles of water and add milk when needed. I use a powder dispenser when I'm out.
