Hi everyone. What's your thoughts on booking holidays when ttc. We have been trying for 8 months for our 1st and so far held off booking a holiday and now I really feel I need somethibg to look forward too. We prefer to book in advance and save up but then what if by some miracle we get pregnant....and then it's such a waste of money but at same time I feel like my life is on hold and I will miss out on lots just sitting waiting for something that might not happen. We have had some tests done ( told a white lie and added a year on to our ttc time frame) and all normal so going to ask for some more tests soon.

Have any of you ttc'ers booked up hols for 2018?

We haven't because of ttc. It's annoying as when ttc my first I spent three years not booking stuff in advance. We did go to Venice twice pretty last minute during winter for two years in a row and that was lovely. Perhaps something more last minute? Life on hold feeling is horrid!! xxx

Can you try and make a booking not more than 6 months ahead so even if you do fall pregnant you can still go and enjoy it? You can't put a life on hold when TTC but you do have to factor it in :)

Good luck, hope you get your BFP soon X

I would book something nearer the time so you would be a maximum of 6 months pregnant or whatever you would feel comfortable with.

I have to say though you shouldn't be lying to get tests on the NHS, a quick glance at the news will tell you it's under huge pressure and getting tests done unnecessarily just adds to this.

Me & my partner are planning a holiday to Fiji either February or April , my dad lives there & We are just gonna go with it , it's tricky situation to be in but we aren't going to book until at least nearer to Xmas time xx

We stopped TTC as I had a new job and we booked a holiday to Cape Verde. I then got pregnant whilst we were NTNP and we've had to amend our booking to Cyprus due to the Zika virus....moral of the story...live your life, book the holiday and if you get PG you can hopefully work around it :-)

I would book it and take out insurance that will cover you changing or cancelling if needed. We were ttc for 5 years and holidayed as normal, otherwise I would have gone insane. I ended up on a ski holiday at 25 weeks pregnant and I still had a great time in the fresh air.

I would book but nothing more than 6 months in advance and not to a ziki virus country. You can't put your life on hold and if you did conceive now I'd be able to still go!
We booked a holiday in June for September and I had my doubts but we go in two weeks and I'm not pregnant so I'm glad we booked and don't hold off!

We've been trying over a year and half and nothing yet we've decided to have a holiday and are going to Egypt in march for 10 nights we need something to look forward to and need a break xx

I would just book the time off from work, start saving and book a last minute holiday

Maybe not but I work for NHS and I don't feel bad considering the amount of hours I work unpaid. I don't need anyone to tell me avout the stresses og NHS when it runs on the good will of us nurses taking no breaks and working late unpaid. I have waited over 8 months for a couple of urgent appointments when they told me 3 months max...so I learned to start processes early. I only got a blood test done which I supplied the bottles amd took the blood myself so all I did was hand them in...

I feel the same. We havent had a holiday together for 2 years and we have had a lot of stress this year. We need something to look forward too and we need to make plans and pay it up and get the best deal ...last min doesnt work for us. Our last hol was last nin and the hotel was worst hotel we ever stayed in.

Exactly...I might not ever get pregnant and then I miss out on any sort of happiness . Holidays are what I live for...travelling amd exploring. We haven't had a holiday together for 2 years and by the time we go it would be 3 years.

I wouldn't put your life on hold. I did this and nothing has happened yet for me. I would just book it and have something to look forward to. You deserve it. X

Fair play to you for working for the NHS, it sounds like you go above and beyond every day and I can understand why you feel that way. Others don't though and still tell 'white lies' to get tests, early pregnancy scans etc that they wouldn't otherwise be eligible for. As you said you will know more than anyone the strain on resources. Hope you get your bfp soon.

I also got the ball rolling a bit before we had been TTC 'officially' for over a year. I was upfront with the GP as due to my previous prolactin issues she was happy to do it. Like Alexis, I'm also an NHS nurse and very aware of how long things can end up taking in real life. Also, people that get what they want tend to be the ones that shout the loudest!! I think it's reasonable for routine investigations though I wouldn't push to get further up the list for IVF or something like that as I know waiting times can be awful in some places.

I wouldn't put my holiday plans on hold as unfortunately you never know when it will happen and I know I would regret it more if I ended up missing out on something I could have done for nothing.

We tend to book late so it's not too big a problem. We do book ahead for visiting family in Scotland but flights in advance are often so cheap that if we were lucky enough to need to cancel then we could just take the hit.

I think it's important to have things to look forward to when you're going through the uncertainty of TTC. We're looking at holidays for October as again we're reaching a point where we need a bit of chill time together.

I think the only reason I conceived was because I went on Holiday. Was the first time I had really really let my hair down and relaxed. Good luck x

Hey hope your keeping well...I see your having a boy! Congrats. Yeah we wont be going on holiday for 7 months. I have kinda accepted we arent having children. 8 months of trying..DH sperm is all normal and my hornones all normal....we are both just fed up now and want answers to why it's not happening. Longest 8 months I have ever been through...and the thought of tbe even longer road ahead makes me so sad. I am in 2ww and due af 31st so waitong till she arrives so I can phone and ask for more tests, maybe a scan of my ovaries amd check my tubes.
