I really want to breastfeed my baby, or should I say I'd really like him to have breast milk. My only problem is the actual feeing bit. The more I think about it the more I know I wont be able to do it. I have a problem with anyone touching my BB's - even OH. It makes me feel :puke: so the thought of a baby sucking on them makes me want to throw up immeadiately :? Some poeple have said I may feel different after the birth and it may feel natural but somehow I think it will stress me out so much and then it will all go wrong.

Anyway, my plan now is to give breastfeeding a go anyway and if I cant do it then I'll exclusively express the milk and then give it to bubs in a bottle. I feel happy with that :) I have been researching breastpumps and from what I gather if you are solely expressing then it is best to hire a hospital pump to maintain a good milk supply??

Can anyone help?

xx

thanks girls

I had a look in the feeding section at the expressing support thread  sounds way complicated! I think really I'll just have to grin and bare it boobie feeding, even if I do it just for the first few weeks, its better than nothing right?

Actually I can see how whopping a boobie out is easier than bottles and expressing Mid!

Thanks.. :) xx

I felt the same way before Callum was born, as he was prem I had to express for him to be tube fed anyway. Breast feeding is definately easier than expressing.

I bet you'll feel so much different when baby is born  I know I did.

I'm SO glad im not the only one who hates the idea of a baby sucking on my nipples! Lol.
I've never been keen on the idea but i, like you, have said i'll give it ago. I have a manual breast pump to use in case i really can't take it, and i am going to have some formula in case i don't get on with it.
I guess we can do but try!

i have been breastfeeding for 10 months.

my advice try not to second geuss how you will feel.

i really stressed before Dylan was born if i would even get the idea of it but he latched on really well right from birth and it has worked well for us.

He had jaundice and i had to breast feed and express on top i can say breastfeeding is definately easier

i used a medula ijn hosp and had the same when i got home.
so long as your baby is fed there is no wrong way

Hiya,

one of my friends has been exclusively expressing since the first week.

Her baby wouldn't latch on properly and she still wanted her to have breastmilk only.

She bought a high grade pump which does both sides at once. She expresses 3 times a day, has no problems with supply and her little girl is still on breast milk. So it can be done. But you must get a very good pump otherwise you'll be pumping 24-7 and you risk complications such as blocked ducts as mastitis. But done properly it should be ok.

I just have an Avent electric one side pump, and there's no way I could express exclusively, I just use mine for the odd feed to keep him taking the bottle.

So you'd probably either have to hire a pump or spend at least £100 on a really good one.

Hope this has helped.

Some women just have an issue with separating the sexy boob feeling and the feeding baby feeling.....

I have very sexual boobs TMI i know...but i do they are the most sensitive part of me sexually...when i B.F my first i was a bit weirded out by the thought of it....and although it felt very different it still had a twinge of pleasure attached which did weird me out but i carried on....I now feel totally different about it. The pleasure part i'm sure is releasing all those hormones to keep the milk flowing.....(maybe why women have more problems expressing).....this is my take on it....a bit of perseverance is so worth it...

And never say never.....
