BLWers

And the reason I ask about growth spurt is because people confuse the 4 month one with wanting to wean. I want to check from all sides that it's right to do and I don't want to use a growth spurt as a reason if that makes sense?

aw, honey, you could spend forever second guessing yourself on this one. Ive noticed in the last week that Georgia has become sooooooo much more interested in "food" - before i could have put something really close to her and she wouldnt have bothered - now shes proper grabbing.

Thing is - you could try hand him a carrot stick one day and he chucks it away just cos thats his mood - give him it an hour later and it could go straight in his mouth. I know you dont wanna do it if he's not early - but i think that the nature of BLW kinda means your just gonna have to jump in when it suits you. If the idea is that food is fun - there prob will be some days/meals where he just doesnt want to "play" - same as with his toys.

I keep getting it in my ear 'he was 2 weeks late' he's VERY good at sitting up on his own. Part of me thinks BLW is about baby taking the lead so if I sit him down with carrot (for eg) and he's not interested, he's not ready? But if he is, he is?

Goodness it's all so hard! He's been feeding so much more the last couple of days, there isn't a 23/24 week growth spurt is there? He's generally had his early.

I believe there is a growth spurt at 6 months hun- so if Tyler was 2 weeks late he may well be having this now (Ethan was 2 weeks late too so we tend to hit them early and he def had a big growth spurt at 6 months!) xx

BLW isn't about satisfying 'hunger', in fact it's suggested that you actually offer food at times they're not hungry.
BLW isn't 'hard' if you understand it.

looool - I thought everyone ate to satisfy hunger!!???

Do you mean just at the start? What is the point in it if they are still gona be hungry, surely its beneficial for LO to have hunger satisfied?

I agree with Pinky BLW isn't hard its giving LO finger food, but its the decisions that are hard.

I think you're over worrying hun, its unlikely the first time is gonna be anything dramatic. It's very exciting for us but as Sarah said its just tasty toys to them. You're totally right in that if he's not ready he won't bother putting food in. Have you got the book? As Mrs r says its nothing to do with hunger for ages so spoon feeding will not help. Just try and relax about it and enjoy it, coz its awesome ) the book says they can be ready anytime between 5.5 and 7 months, the only way you'll know is to try, but if hes having a growth spurt blw won't make a difference to his milk feeds anyhow. (sorry rambling again) x

Food for fun until their one! Milk being their main source of nutrition, as food slowly takes over and they learn it makes their tummies feel full. Anyhow not what this thread is about as Pp has done her research already and made her decision on blw

This thread sums up the unecessary pressure on mums nowadays. If we are talking a few days or a week you are over worrying. As mummies we can decide for ourselves when our LO's are ready! Make the decisions yourselves based on your instincts. Way too much 'right and wrong' in baby and toddler. Xx

That's kinda my thoughts. I've got and read the cookbook (figured I had no time to read the full one with a LO) i might try and gage his reaction this weekend and see what happens. I'm
Not too worried about not much happening as it is fun, for me and him!

Couldn't agree more x

If you can its a great book i just read it whilst feeding and whilst holding a sleeping baby ) but the website and the net generally give loads of fab info. Follow your instincts are you won't go far wrong! Don't forget to take some piccies!) x

I agree the other book is a good read, I referded back to bits all the time when we started. I think as its more about fun than hunger as they get everything from milk for a while you should just trust your instincts on if he's ready the same as other things we do with them, some start just before 6 months and some after and if you go by 4 week months he's 6 months already but by calendar months he isn't. We started with one meal a day when he was happy and not hungry, was really exciting so glad we decided to start with hubby was home so he could be part of it. What does your oh think?

He's been wanting me to wean for months! Luckily he sat and read the BLW book so understood the reasons behind waiting.

How's ur hubby doing now? What happened with him wanting to spoon feed?
