Hi hun, you need a specific blood test (also called serum test) to detect pregnancy. This will detect your hCG ( human chorionic gonadotropin) which is the pregnancy hormone and the blood test can detect it at a much lower level than the urine test, so you can have it done from 8 or 10 days DPO
for any blood test you have sent off to the lab the doctor has specified what they want it testing for, and some require different bottles with special substances in them to preserve the bits that need testing! So unless your doctor has requested a pregnancy test the lab won't look for the relevant hormone (hCG).
