Excuse the gory details but I'm confused as to whether this was my period returning or not?

My postpartum bleeding eased off a lot at about 3 weeks pp and then from about 4-5 weeks pp I just had a brownish discharge which then went almost clear. Then at 6 weeks pp I had bright red discharge (exactly as I'd expect a period to be like) for one day, then back to brown for another couple of days and now it's stopped...

I am exclusively breastfeeding but my baby has been sleeping 6-8 hours at night for the past couple of weeks...this made me think it might be my periods returning but then it only lasted a day so I don't know what to think!

Don't get me wrong, I'll gladly have my periods back for such good sleep but I was hoping for another couple of months at least?!

Haven't really got any idea but I'm exclusively Breast feeding and am thrilled to hear that it is possible for baby to be making it through most of the night without feeding so early on! How did that happen for you, was it just a gradual increase in the length of time between feeds? X

Hi Rose, to be honest I'm not really sure how it happened! I didn't really try, she just started going longer and longer for the first stretch of the night, so I can't really say if anything I've done helped but, I feed on demand, even if that's every hour sometimes during the day and I try to help her distinguish night from day but not giving eye contact or talking to her when she wakes for feeds at night.

I also use white noise and try that first if she rouses at all during the night, to see if she'll settle back to sleep.

She is a terrible sleeper during the day though, she usually won't sleep any longer than 45 minutes, so I don't know if it's down to just a build up of tiredness?!

Thanks sprout, that is certainly interesting. I don't talk to her a lot at night usually because I'm still comatose! She does go longer between feeds at night than she does in the day so maybe I'm on the right track. I too feed on demand although that works out to roughly every 2.5/3 hours which is what the midwives wanted anyway because she lost a bit too much of her birth weight at first.

Will have to see how things change in the next few weeks and hope I get lucky! X

I didn't have a break between bleeding and period, I think I had a day of nothing then my period came at 6 weeks. Im formula feeding though an my GP said 6 weeks was normal time for first period, I was hoping for more of a break! xx
