Had my payslip arrive today, the first one since my maternity leave officially started (had 5 weeks of holiday to use up first!) but am a little confused by it - does anyone know what a payment of CMP is? Other bits like SMP etc all self explanatory, it's just this cmp thats confused me, looked up on google and couldn't find anything, I don't really want to ask work in case it's wrong and they want the money back lol!!

Thanks!

please feel free to correct me if i'm wrong but CMP is Contractual Maternity Pay, and if you don't return to work for at least 3 mths when your mat leave is over you have to pay it back

I think its Contractual Maternity Pay and is usually referred to when calculating pension contributions when on Maternity leave.
-Are you in a Pension Scheme through your employer?

This bit differs between companies I think. I don't get any so I don't know for sure!

that makes sense now! Thanks!
I have to go back to work for 6 months otherwise i'll have a lot of money to pay back! I'm going to stick the extra money in premium bonds i think to stop me spending it, once i'm on flat rate smp and not my full salary I'll need it!
I am in a work pension scheme too.

wow, things make sense now lol, i dont get this, but i can take all 39 weeks of paid maternity leave from work then never return if i want.

People kept telling me i'd probably have to work a bit after before i could leave but i dont :cheer: though tbh the only reason i wouldnt go bk (baby daddy) aint there anymore so i'll probably go bk for a few weeks until i find something better

If you are only being paid Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP) for the 39 weeks then you do not have to pay any money back if you decide not to return to work. This is because this money is claimed back from the government by the company you work for. Any additional pay such as Contractual Maternity Pay usually requires you to return to work for a set period to avoid paying it back.
-A lot of companies are mean and don't pay anything in addition to SMP, so most people won't have to pay anything back if they don't return to work.

I'm a civil servant, so I get my 24 weeks contractual maternity pay plus 39 weeks statutory maternity pay. I don't have to return to work or pay anything back if I don't either. xx
