If you have a Decathlon store nearby they have all kinds of differant sized ones with pumps included from £7 to £10.

the gym ball is the same thing but the sizes vary.

i borrowed a gym all from SIL and it worked well for me

My sister in law gave me a excercise ball and said it cost her 4 pounds in asda and im boucing on that like mad!

2 things to bear in mind. The ball should be 'anti-burst'. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I'm guessing if it breaks it goes down slowly instead of dumping you unceremoniously on the floor!

Secondly the ideal position is with your hips higher than you knees and pelvis tilted forward. So make sure the ball is big enough for you, they do come in different sizes!

My son has this bouncy toy with handles for bouncing around the garden - dont know what it is called. D'ya reckon that would work? LOL (just joking) :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I can just see myself on this great big yellow thing with horns bouncing around the garden - struck me as funny, anyway! :rotfl:

..space hopper I think they are called! great fun :D

Sorry to ask a dumb question..... but what do you do with this big ball during child birth/ generally - I am not sure I understand the point?

Mine was invaluable during labour, I was on my knees leaning on my ball the whole time. It was great because I could wrap my arms round it and squeeze when I was having a contraction.

Before the birth I think you're supposed to bounce on it to encourage the head to engage and stop baby being back-to-back.

Thanks for asking that question TB. I had no idea either (although I have sat on my son's gym ball before I've never quite known what I should be doing) :)

I am using my mums gym ball as a birthing ball type thing at the mo. I don't know if there is a difference.

Maybe in size as hers is quite small so i have to sit on it near a peice of furniture so i can get myself off it afterwards, :rotfl: :rotfl:

Maybe see if you can get the size of the gym ball from argos and compare to a birth ball online.

Other than that they are just plastic balls full of air! Our teesco's is selling them for about £4 at the mo!

It's basically a BIG ball, whether you buy it as a pregnancy aid or fitness aid, it's not magical and the colour doesn't matter either
Like Hellokitty said, there's a couple of issues, the diameter of the ball and the making sure it's anti-burst, although MOST of these balls are pretty hardy, never heard of one bursting
Frequent use is advised to help work and relax your pelvic floor muscles, pelvis and lower back, and it encourages good posture which is all good, as well as to possibly help LO's position. It's also a lot more comfy than a couch

tescos has that one but is out of stock atm :(

I got mine at TK Maxx for about 7 or 8 quid with a pump, it's anti burst and I think it's about 65cm but all the ones they had there were the same size.

Yeah mine is 65cm and I think thats the biggest. I am 5'9" and its fine for me.

My husband is currently sitting on it playing Playstation!

I love mine - got from "Instore" with a pump for £5 - used to be poundstretcher. Great for back ache and posture. Confuses the dog though!
