Hey ladies!
Well, I'm sat here snugglin' my well awaited little man, finally!
He is purely magical, and perfect beyond perfect!
I had a bit of a shit time with labour - not as shit as it could have been mind you!
Here goes!
Well on 19th Sept I had my first sweep with the midwife, I went on to help hubby strip the car down, and we DTD in the eve...
Nout happened that eve...
on 20th Sept, in the morning had a slight bloody show, so thought ooo, sweeps done something! Went cinema and carried on with my day.
Went to bed at 9:30pm which is well unlike us, and I said to hubby "goin' sleep already? What, incase little man decides to arrive?" - joking around lol....
Then at 11:20pm - I got up needing a poo, sat on the loo, couldn't go, had a surge of really bad poo like pains (like u get when your desperate!) So went back to bed..
Woke again at 12:10am (21st Sept) needing another poo so I tried to go, and I managed it, so put the pains down to poo pains... Went back to bed...
Realised I was getting the same pains still so started to time them...
every 3-4 mins lasting 30-40-50 seconds, quite irregular, some went up beyond 11mins.
I left it an hour or so and decided to make my way to my mums which was close to the hospital...
Carried on til about 2am, so rung hospital and they advised at 3-4 mins they were still irregular to take paracetamol and go to bed...
I didn't bother taking paracetamol and didn't go bed lol..
Another hour passed so at 3:30am-ish I rang again explaining I wanted the pool for pain relief and the birthing unit. At this point my contractions were still 3-4 mins lasting between 1-2mins and were quite painful... So they let me go in..
Got to the hospital around 4am-ish, had to be assessed on labour ward first...
BP was really quite high, and I had a bit of a temp, so couldn't have the pool, and couldn't go up to birthing unit .
BUT, I was 4cm dilated so that was a bonus!!
Went down to my delivery room, hooked up to monitors and blah blahhh.
Was being checked often..
About 8:45am, my cervix was still only about 4-4.5cm dilated so they broke my waters, which wasn't as bad as I thought! (Still no pain relief at this point).
Carried on for a bit more and I ended up dilating to 7cm without any paracetamol OR gas and air so was pretty chuffed with that!
At that point my contractions blimmin' hurt to the point I was quite delerious, so opted for an epidural, purely because I NEEDED to rest as I hadn't slept!.
Omg! Epidural is pure bliss!!! I managed to sleep and rest and recouperate for delivery!
So my day midwife left around 3:30pm and I had a really SHIT one from then... Not impressed!! She wouldn't let me eat or have a cuppa tea
Anyway, labour carried on...
I was about 9.5cm when the nice midwife left, but I still had a cervix lip stopping being fully dilated.
Shitty midwife comes along.... Examines me again, she says I'm fully dilated, so leaves me an hour for my body to naturally bring baby down a bit more...
Started to push for an hour... Nothing was progressing, so the registrar came in and examined me too, I WASN'T fully dilated, I STILL had a lip, not as much as before but that was stopping me!
So she hooked me up to a hormone drip, by this point I could start feeling the backache again. Midwife said "oh its only your coccyx bone moving out the way"...
So I was left in pain for a bit more.... Pain still going... Hormone drip working away....
About 7:30pm the pain was unbearable again - I knew deep down my epidural had worn off.... Midwife AGAIN didn't believe me that I could feel the pain even though I couldn't even open my eyes and talk I was in that much pain just sobbing!
But she caved in and said shed get an anaethetist to come and see me... 15 mins passed, nothing. So hubby went and found her sat on her fat ass writing notes.. She hadn't even seen the anaethetist! - ****.
She was due to finish at 8pm so I guess she couldn't be assed to sort me out...
Luckily, the new midwife called Jo, took over before this shit one finished, she was authorised to top up epidurals..
Did the ice test, and I could feel freezing EVERYWHERE!!
So she put booster straight into my driver feed and put a new syringe up and upped the dose, and upped my hormones. - happy Sarah at last!!!
She examined me again and I was progressing slowly, at about 8:45pmish, a male doctor (I was like :/) came in and felt my belly and asked if he could perform an internal, I agreed and he confirmed I was fully dilated and ready to push. He wanted baby out by 9:55pm or they'd have to intervene...
So I began to push - pushing was the MOST amazing and enjoyable thing I have ever done in my life, I truly savoured every second!!!
I pushed for an hour, midwife could see the head coming down as I pushed, but the doctor came in around 9:55 and said we need to get baby out now..
Baby wasn't distressed at all, he was just being very slightly lazy at heart rate rising again after a push, so I kept calm and agreed to whatever!
So they scrubbed up and got ready and we agreed to forceps...
They got all the gear on me and I pushed a few more times and they popped the forceps on bubba and aided my pushes for me, felt a bit tuggy but wasn't painful at all and I was really relaxed...
I had to be cut, but that was ok as I was numb!
I didn't tear either, so just have the cut to heal....
And wah-la. My gorgeous baby, Nixon James Carpenter was born at 22:25pm weighing a lovely 7lb 6oz, and is absolutely PERFECT.
I am so smitten its unreal. He's so content and omg. Just o.m.g.
Ill post a piccy up below
