This shouldn't take too long, it was quite a quick labour!
At about 3pm on Friday 13th I said to my OH that I had annoying period pains.. Not painful enough to stop me doing what I was doing though so I decided to clean out my car and give it a Hoover. There was no pattern to the pains and throughout the rest of the night I continued to get period pains.
I went to bed and woke up at around 2am with stronger period pains, I was wide awake so decided to go and have a bounce on my ball downstairs. OH came down with me and we just sat for an hour or so whilst the pains came and went.. Laughing and joking through them so nowhere near bad enough. At around 4am they were coming every 4ish mins and lasting around 40 secs so I called the hospital and they said that because of my history (I had pre eclampsia with my daughter) I should make my way to the hospital to be examined.
I got to the hospital and was examined at 6am.. I was only 3cm but the contractions were coming every 2 mins and were lasting a good minute so they kept me In labour suite.
I was given gas and air and asked for a shot for pethodine which didn't really do much!
My BP had shot right up to 160/110 and baby's heart rate was dropping with every contraction so a team of drs were called in.. The room filled with about 7 drs and I was told that I was 10cm at 8:35am and needed to push the baby out before he got even more stressed.
I was adamant I needed to do a wee and a poo and was telling them all I couldn't push until i had pood! The dr reassured me that she was felt and my bowels were definitely empty and the urge to poo was just my baby!
So.. I gave it everything and with 3 pushes Joel Daniel was born.
They placed him on me for skin to skin and I shouted there's something wrong he isn't breathing to which the dr said give him time he just needs a few seconds..
Then the midwife put her hand on his chest to feel his heart and pushed the emergency button and shouted for a neonatal dr... Within seconds the room was filled with even more drs and Joel was whisked away and given oxygen, he was purple and limp and not breathing.
After 5mins of working on him (it felt like an hour!!) I heard my boy cry and they placed him back on my chest.
Scariest moment of my life!! My OH was amazing throughout the labour though, really supportive!
I asked for my daughter to come straight into the room so she got to meet him straight away.. There was blood and stuff everywhere which scared her a little but she gave her little brother a kiss and tickled his toes.. She's only 2!
He weighed 7lb 15oz
